Default 71 Lemans sport conv 455 4-speed?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ponti....c0.m245.l1318
I was looking at this car and noticed the seller states it has an 455 Olds, but looks to be a Pontiac to me. Wonder if it's a 455 Pontiac, Would be kinda rare if it was. Noticed it also has the dual snorkel air cleaner also.

I looks Pontiac to me too, an Olds would have the oil fill in the front of the motor. My guess if he doesn't know what make it is, he doesn't know what size it is either.

IF it is a 455 (no 350 or 400 badges on the car) then it has to be an HO car as 4 speed was not available w/D port 455. Pre heater shroud looks like one. May not know what they have. Also in enlarged picture looks like on the LH (driver side) pic of engine that there is a separate heat crossover.

That's a Pontiac for sure. I just bounced him about the misinfo, we'll see what chakes out. I also asked him for pics of the ID code.

Nice looking car but butt ugly seat covers.

This would be an interesting car to have if it is 455H.O 4-speed car!
I also noticed there are no 350 or 400 emblems, curious to know what it really is.

Seller does not know what he is selling. No 455 d-port. That engine only came with the TH-400. It is either a 400 4V or a 455 HO by the dual snorkle air cleaner. No 400 badges on the outside but there is also no 455 HO decal on the air cleaner lid. Most of the other engine decals look to be in place. Looks to be a decent orignal car for the most part. If it is an orignal HO car, or even a 400 4speed car for that matter, this could be a rare find. Hopefully it will find a good home.

There is no 455HO on the air cleaner in '71 if the car is non RA. That is only on RA cars. Mind did not have it. Also my car did not have the 455HO anywhere on it except on the tune up specs. Factory mistake.

The pre heat shroud is a bent sheet metal and not molded/stamped unit which indicates its HO roots.

I love the two hornets nests sitting on the firewall in that right side motor picture, one over the washer hoses and the other over the master cylinder -- that's left there for Barn Find authenticity!

What's the vacuum diaphram mounted up on the firewall above the A/C relay right behind the aircleaner? Never seen that before.

Would a HO car have cut outs in the rear valance?

H.O car wouldn't have cut outs unless it was a GTO optioned w/splitters or GT-37 that came standard w/the cutouts and splitters.

Not true. Cut out on valance were for all GTO/s & GT-37's.

Just realized I did not respond to the actual statement. Sorry for the confusion.

Not true. Cut outs were '72 only. No '71's had them regardless of model/engine.
Not sure I follow what your saying? The 1970 Judge had a lower valance w/cut outs and duel splitters, the 1971 GT-37 cars had duel splitters also. What do you mean '72 only?
