To the right of the timing chain cover the WT is stamped on the block.right above the WT is another # but its not vertical, there 7 #'s.Are these 7#'s part of the vin that suppost to match the car?Or is the vin# stamped on a shelf on the block?

The V.I.N. should be stamped vertically on the RH front of the block about half way up. You will have to look behind the lower coolant hose to see the number stamp. The number near the top, over the engine code stamp is the engine unit number. This number does not correlate to the V.I.N. in any way. Build sheets can be found in several locations, but not in every car. Some of the more common locations are on top of the gas tank, under the rear seat upper or lower cushion, and under the carpet.

CDN2PLS2, what are the color totals for Granada Gold, Verdoro Green, Palisade Green, Palladium Silver, and Baja Gold

The numbers and codes are "supposed" to be stamped in a specific location. On occasion, and it seems to be Freemont, the numbers and letters are there but not in the correct locations and sometimes upside down. Who knows what they were smoking back then when this was done. See example of my block. Last diget of sn is almost not legible.

You mentioned that sometimes the vin# is'nt in the same location, were would that be?Are the vin#'s stamp good enough onto the block to read?On the block is there just one area for the vin#?Or is there more than one place to look?

Our dealership did have/sold an Orbit Orange GT-37 in 1970. Had a 400 2bbl/auto with hood tach.
Also,does any body own/owned a 400 4bbl/manual trans 1970 GT-37?I would love to see a build sheet/PHS on one of those.

That's odd because Fred Simmonds papers break down all 1419 GT-37z by colour, but not a OO one.

My friend has one and I have seen the build sheet. He even offered me a copy, but I declined - I felt funny having it.

Judgeman,

The numbers/codes will be on the machined area below the rh head and beside the timing chain cover. HOW they are stamped varies. How they are shown on http://www.walaceracing.com is how they are SUPPOSED to be stamped. But as you can see on my block they are in the correct area but not in the place they are supposed to be. The last number on my block is so faint that is is almost unreadable.

Well I cleaned the flat surface off to the metal on the block just below the lower radiator hose, and I cant see any kind of stamping of any numbers?Unless the numbers are so faint that I cant see them, but I had a flash light at every angle trying to see if there were any numbers there no numbers.I took a wire brush and then I scrape the surface and then spray it off with brake cleaner,I kept doing that untell I was to the bare metal.
