Default New 1971 LeMans sport convertible

Hello,
Today I picked up a 1971 Lemans sport convertible. It seems pretty original except for 1 repaint many years ago. Guy I bought it from has had it since 1988. Figured I couldn’t go wrong for the $5000 he wanted for it. I just started to look it over and it’s supposed to have a 350 2 barrel. I cleared off the engine code and it says YC which I think is supposed to be for a 455. So I’m confused. It still has s 2 bbl on it. Are all Pontiac blocks stamped with displacement on the sides somewhere?
Thanks!

Your block should have the cubic inches cast into the block on the left bank, drivers side. It will be on the front side. Also on the passenger side behind the dipstick tube on the block. Drivers side is easier to read. If you think it is not the original engine you can also get the year of the block by looking at the block where the distributor goes in. There will be a two digit number referring to the year the block was cast. Let us know.

Well, a little disappointing. It’s a 400 YC code. I haven’t cleared off the date stamp yet, but I’m sure it’s likely a mid ‘70’s block with low compression. I think it’s only rated at 170hp if that’s the case. Oh well, still a pretty good deal.

You can’t drive both of them. I’d take that convertible off your hands, problem solved.
Nice score!

Thanks! I’ll probably need to sell the Lemans this spring after I go through it and clean it up.
