Interesting thing on that 71 GT-37 HR article, note the dash has woodgrain that I thought was not available on T-37. Does anyone have an original 71 T-37 or T-37 with the GT-37 option that came with a woodgrain dash?

Both my HO cars are factory equipped with rally guages & had their original dashbezels, until I sent bezels out to replate. The post car originally had the woodgrain version. Having been ordered with factory defogger, it also had an extra hole in lwr left.

The '71 1/2's original bezel was oddly the base "233" series black bezel.
Nearly all the idiot light equipped '70 Tempest, '70 & '71 T-37, & '71 GT-37 partscars I've pulled bezels out of followed this line as well. Cars that dash pads had been swapped I didn't take into consideration.

The T-37/ GT-37 dash bezel issue whether original pebble grain or woodgrain is one of the obscure things I had been asking about with the GT-37 survey in the early 90's. Also something I've watched as have been though tons of old yards, & a bunch of personal parts cars.

The way it was planned & how most cars were originally built:
-T-37's & GT-37's with std guages (idiot lights) were supposed to & usually received the base 233 series black pebblegrain dash bezel.
-T-37's & GT-37's with factory installed rally guages recieved the 235 series LeMans woodgrain bezel.
-This scenario repeated itself over & over on nearly every car out of each assembly plant. In the survey, I was mainly able to track Fremont, Pontiac, & Lakewood built cars. Framingham did not build much at all for '71. Arlington & Pontiac plant built '70 Tempests & T-37's have also followed this trend.

The problem with the above "planned" production is occasionally (very rarily) a loaded correct color dash asm was not ready on the line with the correct style bezel. Instead of stopping the line, a few GT-37s (& I assume T-37's) slipped out with woodgrain bezels & std guages, & conversely the opposite has been documented as also happening. Have letters along with pictures from several original owners confirming this.

Mine had guages/wood grain. Built in April 1971. That trend OPH talked about seems to hold fairly true.

It is kind of like 'where does the 455HO go on a T-37? I know what the assembly manual says but Dan's copper/white has it where the standard GTO and LeMans had them. Were supposed to be up by the marker light on the front fender. Mine had NO callouts. What happened? Probably human error. I will not put them on as I have pictures of the car the morning after I got the car. Never had them and didn't know they were missing for about 15 years.

Jack, you've got to be kidding me! That has to be one of the coolest pics ever! Have you posted the story on here yet? If not, you have to give us the details on how and why you ordered your T-37 this way.

I'll start a new thread for it. Don't want to hijack this one. (no pun intended)

My '71 GT-37 was built with factory rally gauges and has woodgrain bezel. Built in December 1970 at Pontiac.

I have that road test. I will try to scan it this weekend.

I have a ton of that stuff that I'm assembling for a GT-37/LeMans GT website that I am building.

Thanks, I have a few copies as well. Been a while since I've dug one out & looked it over. Trying to remember, but believe the white '71 1/2 in the test was another of the factory screw-ups as far as the bezel goes... black pebble grain bezel with rally guages.

Did anyone on this forum buy Harold Hexler in FL's dk green '71 GT-37???

I need to dig through my old mag stash once again as well. I may have that article, but CRS disease has kicked in big time, LOL!

Browsing e-bay for Pontiac magazines and articles, and found one I haven't seen before - a road test of a 1972 WW4-equipped LeMans. That's one I had to buy, LOL!

Also found the GT-37 article I posted above, here's the link:
