Well,Joe and I were not happy with the results of the first pulls. We went back to the drawing board.Found some clearances were to tight.Did not like the looks of the rod bearings.Anyway, put them where they belonged.Got a few pulls today and they were in the 475-478 HP range and TQ was 435 440.Will get the sheets posted ASAP.He played with timing and jetting a little with virtually no change. Was OK before but REALLY happy now.The lowly boat anchor made about 1.25 HP per CI as a true 9.5 CR pump gas street engine and did not puke itself all over Joe floor.Tom

Well done Tom and crew, 1.25 HP per cube on pump gas with not a huge amount of money in it is good in my book.
Tom, are you figuring on going to the sprint car races Friday night at Norwalk this year? The offer still stands if you'd like to go with my wife and I. Hopefully no rain out this time........................ |

Tom,
All I can say is "WOW"! All of this from an engine we were told was "worthless".

I want to commend Tom for his efforts on this build.
This is the little engine that could and required a great deal of work to get to this point. This engine will give most 455 ci street Pontiacs a good run for it's money. Calvin Hill Hill Performance 708-250-7420 |

A lot of work and because of the R&D involved of disproving things that people said could not be done a lot of labor.I believe Joe had way over 50 hours in it.Some of that was my screwup of giving him a RA V cam by mistake.Tom

Tom, great job! Another 100 hp gain! That's awesome. You guys really showed what can be done with the short deck blocks.

put a big two barrel on it, put it in a limited modified, go thump some chebbies and ferds, then sell 30 combos just like it to the monkey see, monkey do guys! HELLO, PONTIAC block manufacturers.... (and the 30 would be at a few local tracks).

Not to mention what a short deck block could do with a 4.40 bore and more comp/cam, a deck height like that is a need at this point, biggest issue is if someone is going to make the block, they need to make the intake. |

Awesome job Tom ! Very impressive , that would be cool to have bolted in your '80 TA dressed out stock looking with a 4.9 shaker decal ! I guess a light short deck in the front of a 79-81 Black/Gold SE TA WS6 with new 17x9 snowflakes could be a hell of autocross road car too maybe out one of those Keisler T45 5 speeds behind it..

The engine peaked at 6000,Joe said the 2in headers dont help it and the large plenum on the single plane intake hurts it.All in all he was impressed with it.Will be going for sale on this board soon.Tom

Now that you've done all of the hard R&D, Tuneing, etc. what's a WAG for how much it would cost to build the same?
