Default Distributor gear

Is the gear on a 70's HEI steel or cast iron?

If a stock cam is cast iron shouldn't the gear be steel?

Confusing topic when doing a web search.......thousand different answers.

Pretty easy to tell the difference.
Cast iron will not spark when ground or polished, but a steel will.

I tried that. I put a dizzy gear and a cast iron oil pump casting I had to my bench grinder and had a lot of yellow sparks from both. If the gear was steel I thought it would spark less but it didn’t.
