Man, my 6X-8's are cracked between two valves. I have a set of 6X-4's that are in good shape. Anyone running them on 455's with any luck? I didn't really want that much compression.

I ran 6X-4's on my last 455 (RAIV cam) and never had a problem. I always used pump gas and when Pontiac Dude tore the motor apart the bearings looked great. No signs of Pre- ignition at all.

Hey Dave, What kind of valve train gear did you run with that cam?

Indy Cylinder Head Inc. in Indianapolis are very good at cast iron repair. Last number I had for them was 317-862-3724.

I agree with Steve. Indy has one of the best cast iron welders in the country working for them. They would be my first choice.

Personally, considering 6X-8 heads are so plentiful, I would find another good head than have it repaired. If it was a low production Ram Air or 455 HO head, then repair it, but a 6X, I would replace it.

Yea, the cracked one is in the scrap pile. I'm just going to go with the 6x-4's. I wanted the -8's for the lower compression but now I think I may be better off with the -4's. I'm thinking about a RA IV with 1.5 rockers so I don't get into any weird valvetrain stuff. It's a 455.
Any input? I got both sets for $80 so I don't really feel that bad about it. The -4's have valves that sit high on the seats and they're so clean it's scary. I pulled them off a 2 bbl 350 myself. [ August 28, 2002, 06:39 PM: Message edited by: hoffman7476 ]

I ran RAIV length valves and Comp springs and 1.65 roller rockers.
