Default oil leak

I geuss I dont have to worry about the valley pan gasket anymore. I have a bigger leak. There are now several holes in the oil pan where the rods shot out. My reliability run did not turn out good!!!!

WOW!!! Sorry to hear that.. There are members here that have several running motors for sale. Am sure you can find one for a decent price.

No unusual noises before it let go??? Thats quite a mess!! Didnt take ya long to get it out! Block may not be gone, have seen them repaired with a hole out the left side. Would need to see what other damage it has when the pans off.

block has 2 holes that is the easy one to see. Looks like a bomb went off!!! the other hole is about 3 inches forward of the big hole right if front of the ground wire. 4 holes in the pan. have not looked at the inside yet. It made a noise, it hammered like hell for a minute then it broke!!!

when I got this car, it had set in my buddies back yard up to its axles in the mud. we got it running, but it was a mess. The previous owner before my friend must not have changed the oil because the valve cover was caked full of sludge. I cleaned it up and flushed it good, but the damage was probably already done. That is why I have been afraid to drive it much. It has made a trip to chicago about 225 miles away and several to cincinnatti about 120 miles, but I have always been a little worried about her.

sorry to see/hear this...

So that ticking WAS a legitimate cause for worry. Was it constant or only at idle or did it get louder and faster as it accelerated?

What are your plans?
I have engine/parts in NorthEastern PA if you can't find any closer.

some ofthe ticking was in the valve train, got it to quiet down a bunch with a little tightening. I fel pretty good about driving her yesterday, was running down the highway, she was running good didnt really hear anything unusual over the exhaust, it has always been a little loud, then when I did hear it it was hammering hard. It could have been lightly tiking and increasing as I drove and not realize it.

Sorry for your loss. New oils loosen sludge in the bottom of oil pan. Clogs filter, sends dirt and grit thru motor, clogs oil passages. Then it happens. I've been there too. Back in the 70's , a 49 Chevy. John
