Firebird shipped to/sold new in Germany/Spain/Italy/UK?
Saw this at a local CnC - the radiator support on this GTA had a weird tag riveted to it with those weird hollow rivets. The rear bumper also has a pair of plugs the ideal spacing for an EU type of plate.
Would this car have been one shipped to Europe during the Cold War? The current owner knows nothing of it. |

GM did sell Trans Ams as an export offering in Europe for a few years in the early '90s, although I'm not sure how to identify one now. In the summer of 1990 I was part of a team that conducted research in Germany to see which of GM's US products might have sales potential there. The two vehicles we were gathering input on were the Corvette and Pontiac Trans Sport.

This one did not have the typical European mods, ie. flag-type side mirrors or amber rear turn signals.
If a vehicle was ordered new from say Ramstein AB, would it be US or Euro spec? |

I remember one being cover feature of a long past Smoke Signals. Would also have had rear facing fog lights

Most definitely American cars were shipped overseas for the American military stationed over there. The big 3 all had programs for the military to take delivery of their products in Europe. But military license plates were the standard size, so not relevant to the car in question necessarily.
Had a buddy over in Germany that had an AMC Gremlin that he bought new over there. As he was getting ready to rotate back to the states, he asked me if he should get the oil changed before shipping it. I asked him when the last time he changed oil was. He never had. I told him he should probably just sell the car and get another one when he got back in country.... |
