Default Check out this Score I got last week at work!

Head out to extrication training last week and low and behold, we get to cut up on a 72 Impala. Asked the guy if I could have the seat belts outta that baby and he said no problem! SCORE! 1972 Seat belts! Couldn't get the front retractors out, one was wasted, other was seized anyway, but the back and the shoulder harnesses were basically MINT. One of the nicest belts I've scored. Can't beat it, they came to me! Also got a nice pair of window cranks too. Sweeeeet.

These do look like they've never been installed! Nice find indeed...BTW, never saw those types of buckles on an A-body...did they switch over to that style in '72???

You know you don't need those old belts! You should sell them to me. Nice score Pat!

Lyn.

Those were optional custom belts. My GTO has them. Kind of rare option. I'm so envious. Mine are in good shape except for the passenger rear bench seat. No trim.

Eventually they break and somebody will be needing one. Hang on to those. Nice score Pat.

yeah, these are kinda hard to find, especially in good shape. The plastic around the GM button has a tendency to break on the frequently used. Drivers ones are typically jacked! I have noticed over the years of tracking and extracting these belts is the rear retractors are different...there are many variations. This one I haven't seen before, probably cause it's out of a B body car. I'll post up some pics of the 3 different ones I've got:

First one, B body impala
Second, A body Lemans
Third, A body lemans

I believe they started using these at the mid year 72,(Jan) when all the new gov't regulations came in. These had the buzzer seat wiring attached to the front seats.

Interesting. I've never seen a male buckle like the second pic (A-body) for the rear seat. The first pic (one from the Impala) is identical to the rear belt male buckle in my 72 GTO. The third pic (from the A-body) is identical to the front male buckle of my 72 GTO. The opening is to attached the shoulder harness.

I suspect, the manufacturer used the front male buckles (one with holes for shoulder attachment) whenever they ran out of the buckles intended for the rear.

The buckle you show from the Impala, I have also found on '73 Cutlass'

Yea, I need a couple of those for the 72. The DS are cracked.
PB, do you know what years/models a guy can find these in besides the Impala?

Thanks,
Joe

Okay, the second pic is one from my HO lemans, a Freemont built car. Third one is from my Dad's Lemans, a Pontiac built lemans. Where was your GTO built? I didn't check where that impala came from... maybe it was plant specific...or just what was available to pick from on the line.

1973 Pontiac A bodies used those belts too.. The front seat retractors are specific to 1973, but the buckles are the same as the ones shown in the first pic.

Pat,
My GTO was built at the Atlanta, GA plant.
