1971 Front End Fit a 1972 Lemans?
I've been getting a lot of good feedback on my other posts. But now I'm ready to make a decision. I have a 1972 Lemans, with the GTO package (Endura bumper and fenders). I have found a 1971 GTO Front End including: radiator housing, core support, hood, fenders, and bumper(which I need to replace on mine). I know the major difference is the air intake behind the front wheels in the fender on the 1972, verse the 1971 which didn't have this air intake. Which doesn't bother me much, maybe I can get it modified later. But I'm curious if everything else will be the same and bolt on without modifications. The dimensions were the same for 71-72 verse the 70 which kinda sits in its own category. I'm wondering if anyone has done this swap with the 71-72, or if it's something that won't work without costly modifications. I found a picture of a complete 1971 GTO and my 1972 Lemans so we can compare side by side. Essentially I'll have my 1972, with a 1971 front end if this goes according to plan. First three photos are mine. My left fender is in good condition (The right side is where the issues are) but since I can get both off a 71 I was going to switch it as well so it will be uniform.

All parts will interchange with no problem. Core support is the same so you wouldn't necessarily have to change that out if it is still good.
Food for thought: I wouldn't modify the 71 fenders to fit the vent. 71 fenders are MORE RARE than '72 fenders, so I am surprised you found a front end. They typically fetch more money for nice fenders. You could probably trade them for 72 fenders easily or sell them outright and purchase 72 fenders and still have some coin in your pocket. Though there were less GTO's in '72 than '71, there were much more Lemans with the T-41 option like your car has, which Pontiac billed as the $41 nose job built in '72. For $41 bucks, you got the GTO front clip.

Welcome to the forum! What part of Georgia? Where did you find the 71 front clip? As Pat says, those are rare indeed. I second what he suggests. If you are close to Atlanta, we'd love to have you join the Southeast GTO Association. If interested, shoot me a PM with your contact info and I'll get you conneted with the group.
