Default 64 no console shifter boot orientation

Next on the agenda is putting in the shifter hump and shifter boot. I'm assuming the boot goes directly on the hump metal, the carpet goes over that and the chrome trim ring goes on top of both. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Then the last question is, what is the orientation of the boot and trim ring? Does the one more blunt corner go toward the front toward the glove box or to the rear toward the driver?
