This has always been a special race. I've made the long tow four or five times over the years and hope to make it again this year. I hope we can make more than two passes this time. My quickest pass was at this race last year. The car loves the low elevation.

I hope the location change and date might stir up some more interest in this event.
I've been to Great Bend once for a NHRA divisional. Had a great time, very nice city, was impressed! Track is top notch!

We made our hotel reservations for Great Bend and for the drive back and forth (approx. 1100 miles from Tucson). I'm going to try over-driving my blower by 10% instead of one-to-one this year. It was worth a quarter of a second on my ET to go from 10% under to one-to-one. Also, I'm going to try the pro tree this time. So, we'll see. I hope the weather cools off before then.
This race falls on our fifty-first anniversary weekend this year. Can't think of a better way to celebrate. Jim

I have a couple updates to add about the Uprising. We have secured the use of one of the large buildings so the show cars will be inside. Since being at a new location is a big change for the event and you never know if attendance will be up or down plus not sure how many cars will fit in this building, I will throw out the disclaimer that inside show car parking is "first come, first served". Also, if you are one of the people who race and show at the same time we will probably have to park you outside because of insurance rules about traffic inside.
Next big news is that the 1963 Tempest 421SD prototype will be here. Jim, looking forward to watching you make some passes again. Steve, we can find a spot inside for you to set up your display.

Does the 80.00 dollar AFX fee include two races like in the past? Meaning second chance or quick 16? Thanks Rod Cole

Rod, the entrance fee does cover the Quick 16 race. We do not have the second chance race anymore.

Weather looks to be excellent for the event! Trying to encourage as many as possible to attend.
This could be the beginning of awesome events to come! I'd like to go to Norwalk, and hope to some day, it's a long haul from Oklahoma. 433lemans thanks for the heads up on Arnie being there. Enjoyed his presence last year at Wichita.

Weather man this morning is showing that it should be dry with the high in the 70's. Sounds like good racing weather to me!
The SRCA Dragstrip at Great Bend really is a great facility. Lots of all concrete pits with 110V power plugs on all the light poles. looong shut down area. It was originally a WWII training airstrip for B-29 bombers.

The weather was perfect. The track is fabulous (there were acres of concrete pit spots). The track personnel and the Wichita club members were all helpful and the races went off well. Everyone there was friendly and welcoming and there was a nice laid-back feel to the event with the track available for longer hours. Ellen and I saw several old friends and made some new ones as well.
Personally, I was disappointed in my car's performance, as I only got one pass in. I've got an issue with the breather on my 10-quart puke tank putting out what appears to be coolant or a mix of my (green) Brad Penn oil and methanol. I had to be shut down at the starting line once and then later after my pass we saw more drops coming out of the breather after we thought we had it fixed. The engine is dry-decked and I only run water in the heads, so I'm not sure what's going on here. It may be a humidity thing, too. I had the problem in Wichita last year, but not on two all-out passes at Tucson Dragway a few months ago (where the humidity was almost 0%). Now that I'm back home, I'll look at my Racepak info on the burnout and pass and see what I can figure out. As always, I highly recommend this event. I have a feeling it'll be held in Great Bend for a long time. Jim

There are a ton of pictures and a few videos on the Wichita GTO club's Facebook page. There's a link to the page on their website:

Richard, got any info on this years event. A friend of mine call Tom Wilhite, he was out of the shop, but his employee said it was definitely in September.
