rear shocks
Hey guys,
Its been a while since I posted here but I have a quick question. I have a 1971 GP ans was wondering if someone can recommend a some good rear shocks to bring the ass end of the car up a little. The car came with factory air shocks and I'm tired of dealing with them. I'm trying to improve the cars stance a little. Any advice would be appreciated. Warren |

Shocks absorb shock that is why they are called "shock absorbers". They do not "hold up" a car. If your rear is dragging it is because your springs are shot. Air shocks, or worse, those springs they sell that go over your shock are a barn job bandaid and actually cause damage to the shock's upper frame mount which is not designed to take a load. Yes your car may have "factory" air shocks but back then they would sell a customer any thing they wanted. If you noticed, they stopped doing that.

After you replace the springs put some Bilstein shocks under it.

I was going to suggest that but did not know if they are available.

Summit has them listed for GTO. I'm assuming they're the same as GP.

Yes GP and GTO shocks are interchangeable.

Thanks for the replies...would you recommend going with the heavy duty coil springs or stay with stock ones? The car is a '71 G/P 455 with 88000 original miles on it....

I would go with stock if you do not tow.

thanks for the advice...I installed coil springs over the weekend and they turned out awesome..really improved the stance of the car. BTW, does any one know where I can get rear bumper pocket that goes behind license plate?

Rear Pocket
An NOS license plate pocket is one of the holy grails in 69-72 GP world, and honestly, even if you found an NOS unit, it would be brittle, extremely fragile, and not worth putting on the car, especially after what you're likely to pay for one.
This is one option (but I can't speak about fit or finish on these): https://www.ebay.com/itm/1971-1972-P...frcectupt=true
