Default Solid Roller Valve Spring help

I have a comp custom solid roller in a 455 short block. Here are the cam specs

lobes 4874B / 4875B
242/248
.381 .385
112

The heads going on the motor need solid roller springs, I would like to set them up for 1.65 or even 1.72 high ratio rockers. Currently i have 1.5's to go on them.

#16 iron heads
ferrera 5000 series valve intake F5066 ....5.213"
exhaust F5063 ..5.230"
chromoly locks and retainers
comp cams 1.5 ratio Pro Magnum roller rockers

with the above locks and valves the spring set up at 1.750"

I can get the seats cut .100" to bring me to 1.850"

anyone able to recommend a solid roller spring for mostly street and some strip use?

Thanks in advance for your help

Rich

I believe those are a cast variety - if so you would need to be replaced with a higher grade aluminum/stainless steel. Also 10 degree locks/retainers should be used
rather than 7.5's if so equipped. Butler offers a spring that will work well (10 years go anyway) that with an offset retainer would give you a 1.800" ih.

Good if he was stayin with 1.5 rocker. but .385 lobe on exhaust at 1.65 = .635 1.72 rocker = .662... even subtractin for lash would be on edge IMO...

Manley and PAC springs are noted for longevity.... I'd look at their stuff myself. Dont have a catalog handy at the moment tho.

Wow those 987 are a really light spring #138 on the seat is what I saw. Am I missing something?

You wont be able to use those valves with solid roller spring pressures, Ferrea told me 160 max on the seat for the 5000 series.

Darby

What springs, valves, retainers are you running.

What IH are the springs and what seat pressure?

Darby

just read through this thread you started. I know its apples to oranges with the Hyd Roller vs SR.

http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...=698018&page=2

Steve C alludes to David Vizard running a big block Chevy 242 - 248 solid roller with beehive valve springs with 150 psi on the seat.

I guess wading through all the chatter. Do I need more then 160 lbs maybe 400 to 450 open if i'm just looking at revving this motor to 6000

Keep the valves, put good springs with light retainers and thick wall pushrods?

Spoke with Comp Cams today. They recommended a 914 spring IH 1.8 yielding 160lbs seat pressure. Using a 1.5 rocker.
