The car: 1965 Bonneville 4-speed convertible

The problem: This is a nice car that was once used to launch a small boat into Puget Sound (salt water). Hence, while the rest of the car is solid, the posi rear end is proving difficult to remove due to severely rusted control arm bolts. Does anyone have a slick method for cutting or otherwise removing these bolts? I would be most grateful. -Jim

Jime: Can you undo the forward control arm attach points? Then take the whole mess out and work on it off the car.

Other options:

-Cutting torch, least desirable. Esp. with fuel lines and tank nearby.

-Sawzall on attach bolts/heads

-Bolt cutter on nut, cleanest but takes some work

-Visegrips on nut

That's about all I can think up right now but I'm certain ther will be other good suggestions.

Good luck, -Matt

Jim soak the bolts with WD-40 for a couple of days. Keep spraying them until you are ready to take them out. Then hit them with a 1/2" impact gun. Two things will happen. Either the bolts will come loose or the bolts will break. Hope this helps.

Don't mess around w/ it. Go straight for the cutting torch w/ a slightly oxidizing flame and let it rip! Just direct the stream away from the fuel lines / tank, brake lines,
Overproof liquor, dog, wife, etc...

Remember if a mallet will do, a sledge hammer will do excellent!
