How many quarts of oil does my '72 GTO 400 hold with the filter? The owners manual says six, is this correct? Some other sources say five.

6 quarts is standard for Pontiac. Fill it up with 6 and run then stop let stand for a few min. Check the dipstick. You can have the wrong one.

I checked my shop manual on my 67 GTO, 400 CID this morning. I could swear that it said 6 quarts without filter and 7 quarts with filter.
