Default 2018 Pontiac Powered Class Racing

Well, 2018 is only a few weeks away. I'm looking forward to another good year for Pontiac racers. Not sure who'll be driving Pontiacs, or what cars they'll be running. Some Pontiac class cars were sold in 2017, and others are for sale. Some built new cars, and others are planning different engines, for the cars they ran in 2017.

I hope that all the cars that ran in '17 will still compete in '18, as well as lots of new cars. Hey, the more Pontiac engines on the tracks, the better I like it !

The NHRA national event schedule kicks off on the 2nd weekend of Feb, in Pomona, with the Winternationals.

https://www.nhra.com/news/2017/nhra-...le-2018-season

Last year, Lindy Lindholm got things started off on a high note, with a #1 qualifying position, in his '74 Bird. John Schloe wasn't far behind, in his '69 Bird, at #7.

http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...r2017#indextop

The first NHRA div race is Feb 23-24, in div 1.

https://www.nhra.com/news/2017/2018-...edule-released

Good luck to all Pontiac powered racers in 2018 !

This year, Norman Warling got his '62 Cat into the 11 sec zone.

Looks like he may have his eye on the 10 sec zone, in 2018.

It should easily be the quickest Cat ever to run in NHRA Stock Eliminator. It may already hold that status. Anyhow, lookin forward to seeing what the Cat will do in 2018.

Adam Strang has said he's gonna try a 350HO in his '68 Bird. Lookin forward to seeing how much he can get out of it.

That brings up a question. Besides Norman & Adam, I'd like to see, or make a list of all the members here who plan to race a Pontiac powered class car in 2018. That includes Stock, Super Stock, Super Street, Super Gas, and any other class they run at NHRA National or divisional events. Any class except dial your own bracket racing.

So, ya'll help me with this list please. If you plan to run your Pontiac powered class car in 2018, please post it on this thread, and tell what class you'll be running, and which events you plan to run. If you other guys know of somebody who should be on the list, but is not, please post that info. I don't want anybody left out. There are not that many Pontiac class cars. So, let's try to give everybody here a mention. Thanks for the help !

Just remembered that I forgot to mention this. If anybody would like to build a Pontiac powered Stocker, I talked to a guy who has a '74 GTO Stocker, he'll sell.

He said he won a div race & got RU at another, with the car. But, that was a long time ago. He hasn't run it in competition since the '90's. Took it to a track this year and made a pass or 2. But, because of his age & health, he won't be racing it any more. So he has decided to sell.

I believe he told me it has a Doug Nash 4-speed. When he raced it, no roll bars were required. So it has none. he said it could easily be put back on the street. So, a guy could build a competitive engine/auto trans combo & roll bars, to run Stock & brackets, or stay with a 4-speed & put it back on the street. The only thing he mentioned that it needs is a driver door hinge.

The car is in Northeast Ark. He did not mention a price. If anybody is seriously interested, PM me & I'll give you his contact info.

All the NHRA Div2 events in S/ST and some bracket racing when time permits. Possibly the Southern Nationals in S/ST and the Gator Nationals in S/G.

The only other one that I can think of is the Burton GT Bird.

I think the 3rd gens make nice looking race cars.

The McCarty's also have a GT 3rd gen.

Vic Santos had a nice one. If my info is correct, he sold it to Bill Kennedy, who changed it over to Chevy power & put it up for sale.

http://classracer.com/classforum/showthread.php?t=67823

Long time Pontiac Racer John Clegg, has a quick 3rd gen. But I think it has Chevy power, also. If I'm wrong, somebody please post that info. In this case I'd love to be wrong. At least J.B. is still running an SD455 in the old H-O '74.

Bruce & ponyakr (FYI)

Bill Kennedy , always had a Chevy 305 SS/KA when he bought Vic's Car .. That was the car he up For Sale & when lost a motor in Vic's Car , he started using it again ... His New Pontiac motor was just finished by Vic Santos .. So I sure he will have the SS/KA 305 ci Chevy up For Sale again !!! That SS/KA Chevy was also running a second the index !!!

Well, I'm confused about Bill Kennedy's cars.

I checked for some pics & came up with a Camaro & 2 Birds.

Looked at some of the 2017 NHRA division & Nats race results. For most of the season he's listed as driving an '85 Bird. I assume that was the Vic Santos Bird. It's listed as running GT/MA. Didn't think a 400 Pontiac would run that low.

http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...r2017#indextop

Then, at one of the later races, he's listed as driving an '83 Bird. It's listed as running GT/KA, with a little 305 sbc. So, I assume that is the one with flames, and which is now up for sale. Does all this sound correct. Just don't see how a 305 sbc could run GT/KA, when a 400 Pontiac, in a very similar car would run GT/MA.

http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...r2017#indextop

OK, I finally get it. The '83 was not running GT. It was running reg SS, because the 305 was available in the 3rd gen, AND NHRA changed the weight breaks for the GT classes, for the 2017 season.

Default Winternationals

OK, they're underway !

In Stock Q-1, Bob Aceves had the highest qualified Pontiac powered car on the list, @ #32. Randi Lyn was next @ #42, followed by Leo Glasbrenner @ #45.

http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...UMMIT#indextop

Looks like, at least for this race, Lindy Lindholm has jumped the Pontiac ship.

Don't know if he or anyone else will race his old Bird this year, or not. Anybody know ?

In SS, Leo is #7, with his 4th gen Bird, & Keri Angeles Pari is #44, with her '69 Bird. And, to answer my question about Lindy Lindholm's old Bird, it is #58, running in the GT/MA class.
