Sorry to report that none of the Pontiacs made it passed the 3rd round. But the season is young, so there is plenty of time to have some Pontiac winners.

3rd Division 2 Race
There will be 2 rounds of qualifying today, with elims Sunday. I only see 2 Pontiac powered Stockers on the list of cars that ran in the 1st round of qualifying. Randi Lyn Shipp was #13, with a 10.50 in her C/SA '67 Bird. Don Himes was #17 in his 301 powered ride.

Well, Randi Lyn had 3 good rounds, but got a bad light in the quarter final round, and broke out. But, she ran a 10.41 @ 125 mph. That ain't bad for a '67 D-port 400 Stocker.

Gators
It looks like the only Pontiac powered cars at Gainesville this week are once again Randi Lyn Shipp & Don Himes. After the final round of qualifying, Randi Lyn is the 2nd highest qualifier of the old school, carb equipped Stockers. That's quite an accomplishment !
http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...er=30#indextop You'll notice that the top 15 qualifiers are all 8 & 9 sec late models. Looks like there needs to be some sort of separation of these type cars and the old school Stockers. Or at the very least, some realistic horsepower factors for these cars, which obviously produce much more power than the NHRA hp factors reflect. But, I suppose that involves NHRA politics, of which I know very little. I have read that it has been rumored that these type cars may become the new Pro Stock class. But many rumors are not so and never come to pass. So, who knows ? |

Miss Pontiac
We took a vote at our house, and it was a unanimous decision. TJ & I both voted to name Randi Lyn Shipp as the current "Miss Pontiac".
She won her race in the 1st round of elims at the Gators with a .033 light and a right on 10.43 ET. As far as I know, she has the only Pontiac powered car still in. Go Randi ! http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...er=30#indextop |

Shucks
Well, in round 2, Randi Lyn bumped her dial up to a 10.44, but ran another 10.43, for a breakout loss. So, there are no more Pontiacs to root for, at the Gators. But there's a lot of racing left this season. So maybe we'll have some Pontiac winners before it's over.

4-Wide Nationals
Well, all racing rained out for Friday. It's gonna be a busy day tomorrow. There'll be only one qualifying pass for the lower classes.
According to the entry list, it looks like we'll have 3 Pontiac entries in Stock. Michael Brand and Adam Davis with their '73 F/SA 455 Formula Birds, and Randi Lyn Shipp with her '67 400 Bird, entered in D/SA for this race. http://www.nhraeventreg.com/ListEven...=CN1&cc=8&rn=4 |

Randi Lyn is the #5 qualifier @ 1.041 under, and quickest of the Pontiacs, with a 10.35. She's running in C/SA instead of D/SA. Also, Michael Brand switched to G/SA.
http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...UMMIT#indextop All the Pontiacs made it thru round 1. http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...er=30#indextop Last edited by ponyakr; 03-28-2015 at 11:51 AM. |

OK, Stock qualifying and class elims have begun. Looks like Leo Glasbrenner has the highest qualified Pontiac, with his C/SA '68 Bird. Some of the Pontiacs have a shot at a class win.
http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...UMMIT#indextop http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...UMMIT#indextop http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...UMMIT#indextop Don Kennedy has the highest qualified Super Stocker, with his GT/AA '05 Sunfire @ .843 under. Peter Biondo is lookin good for the class win in GT/CA. http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...UMMIT#indextop http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...er=30#indextop Last edited by ponyakr; 04-10-2015 at 02:29 PM. |
