Which stripe?
I've got the "Aquarius green Poly"-ish 1971 GTO pictured below.
The car appears to be lucy blue-ish in the photos, but is much more blue/green in person. I've been toying with the idea of putting some stripes on my car. I suppose I'd use the orange/pink/blue? If you were making custom stripes for this cars' color, what would you choose? Also, I'd like to keep the "GTO" decal on the fender; but mine are white. I also like the 'sword" stripe. Is it sacrilege to put sword stripes on a '71? |

Everybody has different tastes. I'm not a fan of pink, and your blue is tough to bring psychedelic colors into. This is my conservative take. Pastel blue outer/lime green/lighter blue similar in hue to your car in the center. If you have an idea, I can do a quick PhotoShop as time allows. Hard to see with the lo-res of these attachments. I can email a higher res.

Scarebird; I agree, about the judge stripes in the factory colors; but i like what HoovDaddy has presented. I see that there are a few stripes available: Judge type, sword type, 9 Stripe type... What is "D-98" stripe? it looks smaller in the photos i've seen? (But honestly i've seen very few photos labeled "D-98"; usually says " Judge stripe" are they the same?). Thanks for your ideas. |

This is the D-98 stripe on my 71. Only two colors on this stripe kit. Purchased from Phoenixgrafix.com.

I was under the assumption the D98 stripe was the full length 9 stripe.

So, I was right, that pic isn't a D98 stripe. It's an eyebrow stripe. The Lemans got the solid and the GTO got the 9 stripe sword stripe for D98. Well, after viewing all their options it's confusing. They list the 71 with eyebrow stripes as D98 and in 72 the D98 is the sword. My 72 convertible with T41 was built with the D98 stripes and I asked this question a while back because I was confused what was on it. I think it was pointed out, only a GTO or Lemans with T41 was allowed to order the stripes. No regular Lemans could get them from factory.

So this is confusing. According to the Thomas DeMauro book on Pontiac GTO 1964-1974, the D98 (Pontiac Order Form #614) option was Rally stripes with no real detail of what the stripes looked like. In 72, he states" A new Rally side stripe was offered optionallt with the GTO and LeMans with the endura nose, and only 150 cars got them. Also, that book shows a 72 GTO with the nine stripe design withe the comment:" The 1972 Rally Stripe design was a one-year only endeavor, and very few GTO owners took the plunge.
So was the eyebrow stripe pictured in Phoenix Grafix the 1970 hold over Accent Stripe( code #422) which started out as a 69 Judge stripe but changed to eyebrow style later in the year? |

Here's another idea I thought for a custom painted stripe.

400 Lemans, that link doesn't work. For me anyway. Others?
