Default Got my new knee…

Surgery was successful. My doc told me the knee was a “mess”; far more damage than he expected. Took my first walk about 2 hours ago; it was the first time in two years I have walked without pain. There is pain from the incision sight and in the small of my knee, but that is it. It’s going to be good to be able to walk again pain free.

I had both of mine replaced. Left first, then the right 8 months later. One thing that is very important. DO THE THERAPY AS INSTRUCTED. To little at home is bad, so is to much. Now is the time to follow instructions. I have no pain, and am walking all over the hills of Southeastern Ohio now.

Already have, Pat. Just finished my PT evaluation. What hurts is where they placed the tourniquet and the nerve blocks. Still have the temporary pain pump( full of lidocaine) in place. It should run out tomorrow.

Have a speedy recovery!

I needed both done and the doctor would have done both together, but my immune system isn't 100% so I picked the worse first. Felt great for the first month until infection set in due to my immune system. Long story short, they removed the hardware and ended up fusing both knees straight. So no more bike riding and no driving a manual. Thankfully my cars are automatics.

Fifteen years later (I'm 57), every weekday I walk 4 miles.

Both done a year apart the old way. New way is using robot assisted. From what I see recovery is real short compared to mine. Do your therapy a must or you will be walking with a limp. Good luck

Well, today is the first day without the numbing solution. NOT good, but I have ice packs on my left thigh( were most of my pain is) and have already started reducing the amount of oxycodone I am taking. Walking isn’t too bad, but I can’t walk very far. I am limited to the floor plan of our house until I am off of the walker.

Be very careful with the oxycodone. I had a massive knee infection back in 2016 triggered by e-coli. I was on a picc line for 35 days and taking oxycodone for the pain. I know now how so many people get addicted to it and I was being cautious and only taking about 1/2 as much as they said I could at each interval. And as some others have said the rehab exercises are very important. I had a physical therapist coming to the house 3 times a week for the first month or so and then went to a rehab center some after that but the real progress only comes if you do what they recommend on your own. It took me the better part of a year to gain back 90% range of motion but I didn't have knee replacement, and thankfully was able to avoid that route. Hope you can make a quick recovery and be back at it very soon.
