Default Continuing the trend, I just lost my father.

It happened last night. He had been having a series of strokes and this last one really knocked him on his ass. He was bed ridden and was showing signs of dementia. He was put back under hospice care and was asked if he wanted to be at the hospital he said no, he wanted to be home. When askedmif he wanted to be fed, he also said no. He knew he wasn't going to get better and wasn't going to allow himself to be a burden and lay there and exist. He slipped into a coma this past Thursday and Monday night he let out a cough and then died.

My brother and I were able to be there for his final moments and I'm grateful for that. We were able to say our final goodbyes to him.

While it sucks to high heaven that he's gone, his quality of life was terrible and he was always the type of person to do everything for himself. I was 42 before he actually needed me to help him with something. It was a surreal moment for me.

I have a lot of good memories amd I hope to see him again.

Sorry for your loss. I lost my dad in '09 after a year long illness....same deal, zero quality of life, and he no longer wanted to be here. Remember the good times.

My condolences to you also....I lost my dad almost 10 yrs ago. He found out he had cancer and in two weeks he had a massive stroke. It's not something you get over, but with the Grace of God, you get through it.

Mike, my friend, I am really sorry to read this.

Hopefully you can find comfort in his having laid down his burdens on earth and that he is at peace.
