Default Sears Riding Lawn Tractor

Today my 10 yr old Sears took a major Tranny/rearend dump. A big clunk, then smoke from the slipping belt. It is a LT2000 22HP with a Tecumseh 6 spd transmission. Has anyone had any luck/experience repairing one of these? I took the unit out, it's on the workbench - looks like a 2 piece aluminum housing that doesn't want to come apart very bad. Any help? Thx, Bill ( It has a Peerless transaxel 206-545C)
