Default IA II blocks & Roller cam bearings

I'm currently upgrading an IA II block to roller (50 mm) cam bearings. I was wondering what others aware doing to insure adequate oiling to the timing chain area? It looks as if the factory design (hole in the retainer plate) will not provide much oiling to this area. Is mist/splash enough, or are you drilling a small hole in one of the front galley plugs? Thanks, Bill--

I didn't build my current IAII so can't answer your question directly. I asked about lube for rollers.
I was told it was mist & splash as cam oil passages are blocked. To me it must now put more oil up top.
My reason is because I started having oil catch tank overflow. Never had problem before conversion ?
I've installed a differnt system but haven't been out yet. Not sure extra oil up top would help chain?
Got to drain to pan as cam tunnel is solid in IAII. Just a thought

I run a 50mm needle bearing setup in my current engine with a Sims modified timing chain setup and we did nothing else. On my third season so far and no issues. There is oil that drains down from the valley along with the mist/splash in the front cover.

I'm guessing you won't be driving a mechanical fuel pump? That leaves just the timing chain, which again I guess is roller chain? Roller chains require very little lube; very, very few motorcycles even enclosed their drive chains.

I don't run a mechanical fuel pump and use a Simms TC set up. I didn't have roller cam bearings in previous combo but chain & gears were fine .

Default Call Wade at BOP

Hi Bill,

Call Wade at BOP Engineering, he has a solution for the NR cam bearing plugging the oil hole with or without using the belt drive.

Before I put my front bearing in I used a small file and cut a very small grove from the oil hole to the cam plate just on the front side to let a small amount or oil to get in that area.

Thanks for all the replies. I put a .030 hole in the passenger side oil galley plug. It hits the back of the timing gear and I figured it would give enough splash to take care of the thrust on the cam sprocket. If I were to do it again, I would take a close look at what chiefbig b suggested. Thanks again, Bill---
