Talking Results of Transmission Swap

Two weekends ago, my tq converter developed a leak which caused me to pull the T-400 and converter out of my GT37. I had wanted to try a PG for some time, but the opportunity never presented itself. Thanks to my friend, Aaronman, who loaned me his spare PG, I was able to make the test.
The car weighs 3650, makes about 675 HP and 623 ft lbs. As a bracket car it constantly ran 6.60-6.68 in the 1/8th @ 105-107mph.

This past weekend, I ran the car with the PG. It ran 6.62-6.68@ 106.
My 60's were 1.44-1.45 with the T400, they were 1.47-1.49 with the PG and much more managable.

Two additional facts: 1. I changed rear gears from 3.89 to 4.11.(they were 8 yrs old)
2. The Tq converter was an 8" borrowed (thanks, Aaronman) from a BB Chev dragster.
Overall, I was pleasingly happy, the car didn't seem to lose any ET and perhaps gained slight MPH.
Who says you can't put a glide in a heavy car!!- As long as it has Pontiac TQ!
Now, we'll just to have to see if it'll last. - Bill -

PS If anyone sees Aaron, tell him I'm not home

I question the durability. It will be interesting to see how it goes through the season.

Can you give specs for the glide? Case, gear types and ratio, input shaft, who built it, etc.

-The 1st gear is 1.80
-The 60's are off a little bit, but it just doesn't seem to hit so hard or violent. It still pulls the wheels, but not as much - maybe more forward motion and not so much show!
-It was built by Steve Shepherd in Bloomington,MN.
-It has 2 SFI stickers, so the case is one of those spendy ones.
-The input shaft fits my T 400 converter, so it's also heavy duty.
Maybe Aaron will chime in as he knows all the specs! - Bill -

If it's built to live in Aaronman's ride it should live fine in yours eh Bill? Interesting test results for your weight and et, thanks for posting. Most of the guys around my area are running Glide's as well, 7 & 8 sec cars at 3400lbs and up... Built right they seem to do the job. Gotta have the right converter nonetheless at all times.

Are you using a transbrake or footbraking? If footbraking how did you find the difference in reaction time to be?

Bill,
Great post. This is why this forum is so great. Sharing information that helps others. This is the 2nd time I have seen a local Pontiac racer switch to a glide from a TH400 and improve their combination consistency without any loss in ET. As a matter of fact the glide conversion will pick-up some ET and MPH in the quarter with the right converter. The transmission that Bill is running is a Hughes Pro-Glide. It's rated to 1800 hp and to prove it it has lived behind Brad Smuland's 7 second turbo Bird.

Key Specs
• 1.80 9310 Straight Cut Gear Set
• SuperCase and Roller Tailhousing
• Vasco Ringless Input Shaft
• 10 Clutch High Gear Drum
• Kevlar Band
• Billet Clutch Hub
• High Flow Front Pump
• Deep Aluminum Pan

I own 2 Hughes trans and 4 Hughes converters. They have A1 service. Call Hughes and ask for Mark. Bring a thick wallet

Tempting - I run T-brakes in both transmissions, so foot braking is an unknown - Bill -

My son works at Hughes. I think Mark is no longer there. You can ask for Matt. Mark L
