What's the max. timespan between engine production date and car production date?!?
Hi,
I'm wondering what the maximum time span between production of the engine and production of the car can be. I've just bought a '70 GTO convertible 400 4bbl Automatic with a correct '70 YS block with # 13 heads, the correct intake casting # and a production date code K059 Nov. 5th 1969. The car was build code 01A first week Jan. 1970. With the holiday season in between the two dates does this look like the original engine? To me it does, but I couldn't find the (any) VIN on the block, but then I found out I've been looking way too close to the engine serial number and not under the lower radiator hose above the oilpan..... I still do believe this is the original engine for this car.

My 70 had it's original engine when I bought it. The car was built the third week of January 1970. It was a YS block. The casting dates are close to your's. I still have the #13 heads and intake. If the VIN on the block matches the car's VIN I would believe you have the original engine.

Your dates are certainly within the generally accepted limits.
