I remember riding down town with my dad when I was about 11 years old, 1963, and seeing one station with gas at 14 cents. There was one of the famous 'gas wars' going on at the time and most stations were 19 cents or less.

Gas was .99 a gallon is PA in 1997 for a brief 8 months or so. Hi test was $1.20. Then it want up a bit. Then I bitched about spending $1.50 on Sunoco ultra 94. Those were my good ole days.

More like 50+. 29.9 was just about normal when I began driving in 1963.

Back in the fall/winter of 1962 while attending Portland State College, gas was 19.9 a gallon at the station at the end of Broadway in downtown Portland. Didn't really bother me much cuz beer was .10 a glass on Friday nights and within walking?? distance.

In 1969-70 in TN I would routinely buy one gallon of gas for my 2 stroke LawnBoy mower for 27 cents. Got about $1.25 for mowing a typical city size lawn. My Dad would give me the pre-mix oil for free. I could hang the gas can on my bars, and use one hand behind me to pull the mower as I rode my Huffy Cheater Slick to the job site

The cheapest gas I remember was 23 cents a gal. in 1969. I was 16 and I can remember me and my buddies pulling in and asking for like $1.37 worth. LOL

Back in the mid-'60's, in our little hometown of Jonesboro, the cheapest gas was 29.9 @ the Rose Oil station. Highest was AMOCO "white gas" for 39.9 @ the American Oil station.

Kids with a "bug" could cruise around town all night on a "dollars worth". Sometimes several kids would chip in a few coins, in order to buy that "dollars worth".

Guys with Musclecars would sometimes buy @ Rose Oil, so they'd have more to spend on brewsky. If they wanted better performance, they'd buy AMOCO.

Buy the late '60's/early '70's, it was 39.9 @ Rose Oil & 49.9 for AMOCO.

There was a gas shortage in the fall of '73. Lots of stations would run out & close early. Hard to find gas after dark.

I went to the NHRA Finals in Amarillo that year, driving a 472 powered '68 Caddy. Was running low on gas somewhere in North TX, about 3-4am. Just before I was about to stop & wait on daylight, I saw the lights of a big all-night truck stop. They had plenty of gas. So, I made it to Amarillo just about daylight.

Fuel generally went over a buck a gallon in the '79 - '80 timeframe, depending on where in the country you were in.

I remember that price Misterp266 shows. It's the same as it was around 1969 or so when I had my 1st 66GTO up in Northern NY. I also remember gas at .24 a gallon and lower before I had my own car. I'd put 5.00 in dad's 64 Star Chief and cruise around all night..... with the speedometer unhooked so he didn't know the miles I put on it.

The lowest price for gas I can remember paying was $.499 when I got my driver’s license in the late 1970s. I could fill up my Catalina with $15(26 gallon tank).

I remember in the late 70's when I was in the Navy I said I'd never pay more than $1.00 a gallon, I'd quit driving first

Remember 20c for regular and 22c for Premium at a Direct station in South Florida.
