I was going to until recently. I figured the project would never be completed if I did. I may still move the front wheels forward a touch. A guy thats done a few gassers around here offered to give me advice but since he offered he hasn't been around. I could probably do it but might also get disgusted and give up. So I'm not going to bother. I do plan on radiusing the wheel wells. It'll still be pretty cool I hope.

Did some work on both sail panels, the rear window gutter and the trunk gutter. The trunk gutter was a lot of work. It was rotted to the point where I had to cut out quite a lot of it and replace it with some donor pieces.

Not to change the direction of this thread but, there seems some interest in altered wheelbase stuff.
I have one under construction now. There are many pics of its being built on my site for a few years now if anyone wants to see and follow one going together. I've been feverishly working on the 'glass fenders for the lst few weeks now. Geesh, that is a LOT of very messy work. I could never do it for a living but, it is different when it is your own car. I just primered the whole thing last night and will do some mock up photos on my site soon. I started with a 6cyl,auto '65 Tempest sedan. Both front and rear wheel base moved forward. 'Glass fenders stetched and wheel opening moved forward further yet, homemade mini tubs in rear. Cooling system is under the trunk, tilt front end. It is kinda' what I would have built if I was around in 1965 with some upgrades. The car is being built to look old not a polished up show car. It will see some street use too to some car shows, cruise nights, etc. It is the next race car in the Pontiac Heaven stable. It is blown, injected 1959 389 bored and stroked to 577" and has a Lenco fitted in it now with a Crower dual disc ( blwn alky funny type ) clutch. However, I may put n a 400 thm for less maintenence. It is being built as an exhibition car. Lots of noise, smoke and wheel stands ( lots of fun ), a crowd pleaser. This car will make its debut appearance at Pontiac Heaven X April 5 and 6 here in Phoenix. info on my site with new pics coming together soon. Again, no intention of changing the subject here on your car. But they do have somewhat of a simlar theme and there were posts on altered wheelbase cars. Best to you on yours. Cool stuff Steve!!!! No mis direction problems here! Good luck with your build. And if you want to post pics here please feel free to do so.
It looks as though yours is going to be much wilder than mine! "blown/injected altered wheelbase '65 Tempest exhibition/funny car" Cool chit indeed! Phil

Thanks Phil,
If it is OK, here are a few pics from today. There is my stock wheelbase '64 GTO behind the Tempest Funny car to compare the changes in the wheelbase. In my opinion, the wheelbase change is very tasteful. It actually looks as good or better than the stock proportions. Some of the funny cars from the day were pretty tacky looking. I think this will make a nice addition to my slingshot AA/Fuel Dragster for a 2 car Pontiac Heaven team. Again, not to high jack this thread, just showing a comparable period project. there are many more pics on my site on 'my race cars' page if interested. I do not want to start a separate thread on this car at this time. We'll be starting on the weedburner headers soon and then working on the tilt front end and the rest of the body work and floors. I am waiting on some custom parts for the 577" before I can progress with it further. Thanks for letting me share this here. Keep us posted on your progress with your '65. Wow! That looks awesome Steve! The wheelbase change looks great! That engine looks bitchin too! It's going to be gorgeous when finished.
BTW, I'm using similar wheels! Do you happen to know where I might find a set of fiberglass fenders? Phil

Sorry for the (potential) hi jack but here are the aforementioned scans on Dick Jesse's car.
In the picture on the first page (lower right) you can see the washers stacked up to space the body up from the frame... I also have a four or five page article from the April of 1966 Car Craft, if you would like to see it (I could start a different thread if you prefer). K

By the way, it doesn't say so in the article but my Dad is the one that adapted that Olds injection intake to fit the Pontiac.

Phil,
On the fenders. I actually bought mine right here on this board. I forgot who sold them to me. Someone in the east or midwest. They are from VFN so I am sure you can get a pair from them. Steve Barcak www.pontiacheaven.org "Real Pontiacs only...no corporate nonsense!"

Help me out to understand how they raised the front end on the "Mr. Unswitchable". It says they reversed the ball joints on the front suspension. What do they mean by that? I understand the aluminum spacer used in the upper ball joint to help with geometry but I don't get how they reversed the ball joints. Thanks.

Did they flip the spindles upside down?
