Question '66-'67 SPORT COUPE SIDE GLASS TRIM

I know the GTO & LeMANS had the door & 1/4 glass/frame molding,
but keep seeing Tempest custom & Tempest with and without?

Did the base Tempest have/use this trim?

I had a '66 post back in '83 and it had no trim around the side windows. It was body color. When I removed the trim on my current '67 post it's obvious that trim belongs there. The post on the '66 doesn't look the same...meaning you can't tell there was supposed to be trim there. Apparently it was a very inexpensive option available on all post models(the '66 was a Tempest Custom OHC 2speed 1 barrell)

Yea, Thats what I'm finding and wasn't fully aware of.
We have a '66 GTO Post coming in and the trim is off and you can see the spot welds and I was surprised to see that the Tempest and now the Tempest Custom could be ordered with/without this molding. I guess a DECOR option of sorts? I just can't find anything to support this.

The 66 Tempest Custom I had back in 1972 has the chrome molding window trim.

It doesn't show up too well in this photo, but it's the best I have.

Nice, But we're talking about Sport Coupes.

Yeah I know.... but had to at least confirm a HT. Of the Sport Coups I remember seeing back then, which wasn't a whole lot of, I don't remember ever seeing one without the chrome trim. Spot welds showing doesn't mean no trim, it had the trim on it a one time. In the white 66 Pontiac dealer catalog I have, there is not one Sport Coup shown without the trim. I say it wouldn't/didn't come out of the factory without the trim.

I have no idea what you trying to convey with that last post??
Hardtop Coupe and the Sport Coupe do not share this molding, but I know you know this.

The GTO sport coupe I first mentioned has the side window frame trim/moldings off and you can see the factory spot welds Vs the many Tempest I have seen with smooth(finished) metal frames without the trim/molding.

I was trying to confirm if the Base Tempest came with these, some say yes but I know some did not so I would venture these could be add on (optional) pieces.

I have seen many 4DR sedan(Post) without this trim, but again mainly on the base Tempest model so I thought it was only "BASE" model related. But some are saying the Tempest custom could come with & without, so it still leaves me guessing/wondering.

Jeff, the molding on the Tempest was only available when the Decor Group (064) was ordered. Shown here is the Decor Group for the 1967 Tempest.

Jeff,
On the second pic of the white car you can see the B pillar does have the trim on it buts its painted white. Zoom in & look at the bottom where it meets the 1/4 panel, there is a gap

That's what I was thinking which lead to my inquiry but seeing them over and over leads me to believe that it is more of a finish cap rather then "BRIGHT WORK" Clearly the Molding was an add on based on above Decor info; and I don't think Pontiac/Fisher would have made different frames, but different "finish" parts is more plausible.
Not trying to over think it but will be looking closer as I come across any in the future.

Any Base Tempest owners out there?

My 66 Tempest Sports Coupe was pretty basic.

But it was ordered with the 064 décor group ($44.77) which included the 464 mouldings-decor.

I know this isn't the answer but it was a base Tempest.

Brad,
Thanks.
I find it funny they offer a Decor/Molding and if the customer opted not to go for it these were installed.
I would think they would be very close in cost for Pontiac to use/make either??

All the years parting and just looking at parts cars and I never took notice.
Very neat, are there any Pt#s on them?

Maybe the cost was in anodizing?

Hello there. I have a 1966 Pontiac Lemans Sports coupe and the belt molding this thread is about is exactly what I'm looking for. Mine are quite scratched and I couldn't find a place to order new ones until now. Moldings for hardtops are available but no luck for a sports coupe.
@brad900 - where did you get yours?

My 67 Sprint base model Tempest sport coupe does have the brightwork trim.
Yes it could be ordered as an option.
My car is an odd duck, why buy a base model then load it up?
Worked out good for us using as our only family car as the kids grew up
rubber floor covering vs carpet, all vinyl seats(that was also an option)
AC,PS,PB, remote mirror etc
