Hi
I am parting out a 1984/85 firebird 2.8 v6 5spd and wanted to know if I could use this trans behind a pontiac 400? Will the trans bolt up to the normal muncie bellhousing.? Is the input shaft the same? Thanks for any help!!!! |

The manual T5 trans used in 3rd-gen F-bodies is incredibly weak. They could hardly withstand the anemic 305 engines. This is why they weren't even offered with 350 TPI engines. The trans wouldn't last very long behind a Pontiac engine.
The bolt pattern on the bellhousing won't match up either. If you want to install a manual trans on your Pontiac engine you'll need to go with a 4-speed Muncie/Borg Warner T10 or a new Richmond 5 or 6-speed setup.
