Red face 62 cat gas cap

im almost embarrased to ask this simple question except no one around here can help out, altho theyve tried. the rubber gasket inside the gas cap has deteriorated and i need a new cap. dont care if it locks or not. advance auto tried hard to find replacements but all are too small. that is, the diameter of the cap is smaller than the neck diameter on the fuel tube. were there different sizes available? its a simple sedan car, no frilles 389 2 bbl. please help!

On B body cars only difference should be between wagon and regular. Wagons have vented caps and are different.

Just to clarify, do you presently have a locking (assume aftermarket) gas cap? I bet if you call the Steves (Snyder in Indiana or Barcak in Arizona), they can have a used one in the mail pronto.

Thanks, 8-LUG for posting details of what the NOS piece looks like!

Is the cap itself bad or do you just need a gasket ?

Smile CAPtivating Gas Cap Answer!

Solved! CarQuest 34038. Built by Stant. BTW, also fits 68 (maybe others) C10 pickup truck fuel filler neck. Thanks for all the help.
