Lightbulb Spring allergies & Sinus infections

I can almost put it on my Calander every year. What are your tips for relief from these miserable illnesses? I also get flu like symptoms, aches, skin pain, chills, fatigue, sneezing, green nasty stuff, dry cough, and headache, no fever, nausea, or diarrhea. so I am on Amoxicillin, and Mucinex, but I just cannot kick this. I haven’t slept in 3 days.

I take Claritin D and anti-biotics for about a week when It gets me, usually 2 times a year.
My doctor says only way to not get them is MOVE away from current location.

I am going through the same thing right now. Talked to a friend on the phone Tuesday that was just getting over it, he coughed into his phone and 30 minutes later I started feeling bad! I worked on my shop roof Wednesday and Thursday trying to get it repaired before the big storms were forecast to hit this morning. They never materialized so I escaped that bullet but I felt so bad I didn't even get out of bed until lunch time. Then I made it to the couch where I have been until a few minutes ago. I take Nyquil severe cold and Mucinex DM. But, they only mask the problem. Nothing but time will cure it. I hope you get some rest tonight MA.

I went to an allergist years ago. Although I was a great candidate for allergy shots, I wasn’t ready for the time commitment. (Drive out there twice a week for 6 months, if I was one of the 50% they worked for, then weekly for another year and monthly the rest of my life.). He put me on a 4-medication plan - two of witch are now otc. It has helped a bunch - at least 15 years now.

Local Raw Honey
Olive leaf pills ( 2 daily )
Good night sleep (with hoodie on head for good healing)

garlic in food
peppers, chilli powder
Tumeric powder
Celery stalks

Finally; good coffee from a clean coffee maker. ( wife used to get sinus infection triggered by crappy coffee from a dingy coffee maker). TOSS the Keurig if it has a stale water holder.

Clean Pillows and Pillow cases, vacuum the dust from uder bed & headboard.
Get fresh air in house on the nice days.

what YOU eat and breathe matters to YOUR allergies

Thanks everyone a lot of tips here that I al ready do on a daily basis. This is a yearly thing for me, and since having Leukemia it lasts twice as long, so instead of a 10 day regimen of antibiotics, I have to do 20, and I’m on soooo many drugs, I-have to watch what I take that may not mix I’m very complicated since having a bone marrow transplant, so even the simplest head cold could hospitalize me, All my childhood immunizations we’re wiped out, so with mumps, measles and other things in the news I’m very venerable. I’m scheduled to start getting my shots again in August.

Thank you ALL

When the gmo's (genetically modified stuff) first became a concern to the public the scientists said they were harmless if regulated properly. The only thing anyone had to worry about is maybe having a new allergy to get over. When I hear people say their allergies are getting worse over the years I think about what they said was harmless. New allergies are a terrible nuisance to many and for some with ailments like severe asthma it can be life threatening. It's what we had to do to feed the world.

When I was younger 20s,30s,40,50s. I had your symptoms. Usually lasted a week, then weak for a week. I tried watching what foods I ate. Finally got appointment with a very good allergist. Use to get a shot once a week. Also sprayed nose twice a day, prescription spray, still do. It seems as I aged 71,I had less symptoms. No fun at all ,joints, weakness, sleep all the time.

When I was in my twenties, spring and fall allergies gave me a fit. Like you, I usually developed a sinus infection. One year, I had it especially bad because the bacteria developed an immunity to the antibiotic I was taking. I ended up going to a ENT specialist.

He was great. He gave me a prescriptin for Nasalide, which is a pump spray. He told me to use it when I felt my head stopping up. He said it was very important to keep my sinuses open because clogged sinus cavities are an ideal breeding ground for bacteria.

Since I began using Nasalide, I have not had any sinus infections due to allergies. I have developed maybe one or two sinus infections following a head cold, and to be honest had I used the sinus spray early on I probably could have avoided those sinus infections.

I have tried Flonase, but I have better results with Nasalide. It burns a little, but it seems to be more effective. The most important thing is to get your sinuses open.

Good luck,

Mike

X 2, MA. The Ohio Valley is often referred to as “Sinus Valley” due to the number of residents with sinus issues. My morning routine is as follows: hottest shower I can stand with the vent fan off to flood my sinus cavities with steam, blow nose several times after breathing in the steam, take two Zyrtecs followed by two heavy squirts of Nasacort. This will normally get me through the day. On bad days, Nettie pot followed by the Zyrtec and Nasacort.

Put a good filter and a good UV light/germ killer on your HVAC system if you have a forced air system. This will at least help inside your home.

MaryAnn - hoping for quick and complete recovery. Possibly while in the hospital a consult with an allergist could be useful.

As mentioned in post 14, an electrostatic filter, and UV light on your forced air AC/heating system will help.

Blessed with allergies my entire life. If it grows, I have an allergy (minor to major) to it! Yet I love to garden, and with weekly shots, plus other OTC medicine suggested by the allergist, I still can garden.

Not a doctor, so giving no medical advice. Years ago, an allergist told me to travel. He stated that allergies build, until the proverbial straw that broke the camels back. Different parts of the country have different allergens, and travel would moderate/eliminate the overload. When we were doing car shows, and swap meets often, in different areas of the U.S., the allergies were lessened (at least for me).

The weekly shots that I now take REALLY do help.

Jon.

Electrostatic air cleaner as mentioned and if you have carpets have them professionally cleaned. You wouldn’t believe how much stuff a carpet can hold even with a good household vacuum.
