Default 2800w 1.65 rockers

I'm curious if anyone used stock Pontiac 1.65 rockers with the Summit 2800 cam?

We have used a 2800 on everything up to a 1.73 rocker. The aftermarket roller tip 1.65 will not clear on the intake pushrod. The factory 1.65s I think will usually clear though.

Please be far more specific!
What are you looking to have answers for, track time improvements? dyno test results? If they fit or what length push rods are needed?

Push rod to guide hole issues that may take place?
Many of the above?

No I have not done this, but I don't see any reason the cam will not work with 1.65:1. Do your heads have room to use 1.65:1? What are you tried to use this in?

I use that cam on a 462 (6x-8 heads, long branch manifolds, 800 cfm Q-Jet with 3.23 posi)but with factory rockers. The caveat is that it’s in a ‘70 Catalina wagon that weighs 5000 pounds. Jim Hand recommend it as it’s built to maximize torque. It idles fantastic and I suspect that with 1.65 rockers the lift would extend the RPM range out a bit. Sounds like a good idea if you want a stock type idle and better torque and horsepower than an “068”. I’m a fan of Rhodes lifters but not an 041 cam. For street driving I bet the 2800 with 1.65 rockers will be excellent.

Here’s some info for the OP.

Your heads have a stock installed height of 1.560”or there about depending on the valve job done which will always sink them some amount.

If your running stock springs they are good for only .470” lift before you chance breaking them.

That 2800 cam will have a exh lift of .485” with 1.65 rockers, so changes will need to be made like,
1) Different valve springs .

2)Cutting the spring seats and then different springs .

3)Different retainers that are offset by ..050” and then running different springs.

4) Longer valves and then different springs.

Longer valves provide the benefit of having no push rod rubbing issues with the top of the push rod hole.

With what I just commented about I am assuming your heads are the 1971 96 casting, not the 68 1/2 # 96 round port casting with there longer valves.

Just for the record the 1971 #96 casting has a guide to stock retainer clearance of .555”.

Street use with low compression, stock converter, 2 series highway gear. limited RPM / HP.

455 @ 4300 RPM target.

Ok ,here's the deal. I have the cam and the 1.65 rockers . lifters and some springs that would work in he 6X-8 heads. I was just wondering if any one did that on a low compression 400 engine. Sorry for the confusion
