Default '68 exhaust manifold leak

I replaced the blown out passenger side exhaust manifold gasket on my '68 400YS, but was told that it is a bad design and will blow out again. Apparently a bolt is missing that was added in later years. Any solutions to fix other than installing headers? Would steel gaskets help?

always used steel gaskets on cast manifolds except ram air, not bad design. will work if flat and torqued uniformly.
