Default steering box

Does a 73 firebird have the same steering box as a 73 Trans Am?

I'm not sure but in 1970 if you had a formula steering wheel you got the package deal of the variable duration gearbox. If you had the normal steering wheel you did not have the variable duration gearbox has found in Trans Am but that's for 1970 I imagine the factory kept that policy

Assume you mean power steering.
Short answer is yes in 1973.

My 1970 Esprit with the regular three-spoke vinyl covered wheel had the variable ratio power steering called out on the window sticker. I don't believe there was a "base" power steering. The manual steering was a fixed ratio unit.

In 1970 ( this thread is about '73 ) there was 2 ratio ( variable) ps boxes. I'm not really positive they were ordered as I have seen the closer ratio box on a Formula but not listed as an option for it, even though power steering IS an option on a formula.
