I am curious about home built rides. I want to pat myself and you guys with them on the back. What was supposed to be a quick freshen up and paint turned into a frame off for me starting 7 years ago. Here is the thing though, I am a shade tree at best, with that being said I have done every damn bit of my car except the parts that are obviously specialties. I farmed out the paint glass and AC and will farm out the hard parts of the interior but otherwise I have done every damn bit of this car in a two car garage with only tools I had or bought on the way for specific purposes. My car is amateur at best but I’m proud. Let me see yours!

I build everything here in house for us and others.
Only thing I farm out is engine machine work. I do all my own engine, trans, and rear end building, paint, interior etc...

Nice job! The 64 looks really good. I've done most of the work on mine as well, with the helping hands of my brother and a few friends. I did the paint/ body work and the engine assembly after the machine work was completed by a reputable shop. It adds to the "pride" value when you do as much as you can yourself.

My 64 Lemans that I started in 2015 and recently finished. Done everything myself, by myself, with only two exceptions, the front windshield install and the rag top install. From welding-in floor pans, quarters, body work, paint, building engine, set-up rear end, interior, to mounting/balancing tires, alignment, etc, and finishing up last week with the vintage air system. Been a long road.

Did mine at home in a 2 bay garage, body off, sandblasted the frame myself, ( won't do that again). rebuilt the trans M20, new bushing in suspension. Farmed out
the engine machining and paint. I put it back together after paint, scary. LOL.
Would I do it again, Probably, but cheaper to buy one already done. It's not perfect either, But it's a work in progress.

Im waiting on my block to come back from the machine shop so I can put it back on the road ASAP! The block failure was caused from my stupidity so live and learn. I will be rolling around March with a much milder engine.

30 years of DIY on my car. The number of folks who have worked on it besides me is in the single digits. Pretty sure I've touched every nut and bolt for better or worse. Made a lot of mistakes, but also learned a lot along way. I still feel like a neophyte in a lot of ways.

Here's mine. I bought it from a guy who "started the restoration" (translation - disassembled everything and threw all the parts into 36 large plastic totes). The fortunate part was that all of the critical pieces were there and it is completely numbers matching right down to the KR coded wheels. I farmed out the engine machining and had a friend do the final paint work. I did everything else.

There are a few of mine. None are perfect by any stretch. But they are all good drivers that I fixed up myself. I love looking at and appreciating cars that have undergone a concours/show car restoration but I'm just not capable of that caliber of work nor can I afford it. But I do love old cars and Pontiacs so I just do the best that I can while having a good time with my family and friends.

Both of my Pontiacs are home built by me in a 2 car attached garage. Only work farmed out was engine machine work and building of transmissions. After a few failures, I’m now building my transmissions as well.
Lemans was a 17 year project with a lot of life going on in the middle. The ‘56 gasser was built in 2 years aided by Covid layoff and later retirement.

I do like doing my own and knowing what I have. It's fun to talk to others when they ask who did certain things and you can say "I did".
I did everything on my frame off on my 72 Lemans vert in three years in my two car garage. Before that I did a 80 Fiat Spider vert. Before that a frame off on my 55 Chevy Sedan Delivery. Before that I did my 46 Willys Jeep. In the pic is also my 75 Camaro I bought in 78. I had someone else repaint it though in 2004. I started painting all my own cars after that.
