67 gto mini starter
Hi folks, Having a hell a time with a Hitachi starter. Solenoid hitting the header. And it's not clockable. What works with Dougs D port headers on 67 gto.

Don't know about headers but I have the Powermaster 9510 with RA manifolds and it fits fine. It has infinite clocking so it should work. People seem to really like their Robb MC starters too which also have infinite clocking.

A friend has a 67 but he has Dougs round ports. But they are shaped different. He has the powermaster 9410
|

I have RobbMc starters on 3 Pontiacs....reliable, compact and easy to clock however you want.

I have a stock starter on my '72 A body with RA manifolds with no problems but is tight, I'll switch to a mini if it goes. I have a Hitachi style on my '67 Fbird race car and the positive stud is 1/8" away from the header and I've never had a problem. I have a RobbMC starter with pinion support ready to change it if it goes.

Had three 67 GTO's all with Doug's headers. Somehow ended up with three different mini starters and all fit without a problem. IMI, Summit, and Powermaster starters. Prefer the IMI over the others. Last year had to send back two Summit starters because of the mounting blocks being drilled wrong.

I have a Powermaster 9510 in my 66 GTO (same layout as 67) with Doug's D-port headers (p/n D564). It fits great and there is all kinds of room. The 9510 is infinitely clockable, but I didn't have to change how it came from the manufacturer. Fit perfectly right out of the box.

Have that same starter on my 455 for many many years. Hooker headers. No clearance issues and no hot start issues. 10.6:1 comp. The Stock HD Pontiac starter heat soaked so bad it was embarrasing at a gas pump LOL. 30min cooldown at least before she would crank

yep mini starters fit great, crank great to! about have to use a mini with headers.
but......with no starter pinion support, stay on top of the fitment. if you can find a pontiac mini with pinion support that would be golden. |
