Drag Star, how long ago did you buy them and what brand are they?

However, I may just go to a 15" rim as that opens up more options...According to conversion charts the 215/75R14 = G78-14 = 8.25-14, so it would be right.

The 215/75-14s should be 26.7” tall.

Same size I have on my Hurst wheels, Coker Classics. I wasn’t going to go for wide whites but got a killer deal on these so I figured why not.

B-Man, The Hankook website must have the wrong revs/mile (782) for the 215/75R14 tires size then (5280/782 = 6.752'/3.1412(pii) = 2.15' x 12 = 25.8" diameter). At 26.7" tall that would work out to 755 revs/mile (2700 rpm @ 60 mph, 3100 rpm @ 70 mph) with the 3.55 rear gear...better!

The wide whites are different for sure!

I always use the Tire Rack to gather tire specs such as height and weight. Of course doing the math gets you close but as you know different brands make their sizes a little differently.

Recently purchased a pair of Hankook Kinergy 215/65-15s for the rear of my ‘57 VW bug, listed as 25.9” tall on the Tire Rack but I purchased them from Walmart and picked them up locally. Part of the reason I bought that brand was because it was the lightest tire in that size. Tire weight matters with a relatively delicate transaxle and axles. My bug has 160 hp and weighs about 1500 pounds and I do plan to beat on it occasionally, should run low-13s or high-12s.

Tire Rack has that 215/75-14 Hankook tire at 26.6”. Looks like they’re listing the wrong revs per mile. They’re definitely not 25.8”, a 205/75-14 is 26.1”.

Thanks B-man! I'm going to see if I can find that Hankook tire locally at one of the Walmarts that say they are in stock.

I'm at work right now, will check brand when I get home. Oh and they are black wall but I could get whites. Granted this was about three years ago. They did have them in stock at that time.

OK I lied a little. The tires on my GTO are 215/70/14. Honestly no much difference in overall size. Anyhow they are Hankook Optimo h724 and are available in whitewalls. Well at least they show up on Hankooks site. Oh and I will tell you this, they howl like nothing I have ever heard before when doing burnouts.

Those Hankook 215/75/14 are bang on to the factory G78 or 8.25” diameter factory tires. They drive pretty good, especially for the amazingly low price. The whitewall width is a bit thick at 7/8”, factory white walls in 69 were 5/8” or so for non perf tires and 3/8” on wide ovals.

It looks like the original whitewall may be 5/8" wide, certainly not more than 3/4". Options are pretty limited going the WW route, but I'm not spending $400 per tire on thinner WW's when 4 from Hankook cost the same as 1 Coker or Kelsey tire. Thanks for everyone's help!

I guess you could alway do a set of redlines! Not really correct but really sharp IMO.

Unfortunately redline tires are priced into the stratosphere just like wide whites. Bet you couldn’t touch a redline in one of the sizes we use for under $250 apiece.

So sad the price of classic car tires have gone completely insane. I just paid $137 apiece for Coker reproduction Michelin 135sr15 ZX radials and the tubes I needed (Centerline wheels are leakers) were $38 each as well.

The $100 narrow whites are looking better every day.

The reproduction Goodyear Polyglas and Firestone Wide Ovals are way overpriced anymore, so sticking with what I can afford for a driver and look/perform reasonably well. I have other wheel/tire combinations that I swap between the cars to mix it up a bit.

I’m away for February and March so I can’t take a pic of my cars. The whitewall is a little wide compared to stock but looks fine with wheelcovers but I don’t think it would look good with rally 2’s.

North, I hope you are someplace warm! The WW's will be going on the 14x6 HF wheels with the Deluxe wheel discs.

Nice, will keep the car true to its roots. We are in Hawaii, my other hobby is surfing. Weather here is bulletproof but not a car place. Too small, too much traffic and 24-7 salt laden wind.

Enjoy the surfing...Hawaii is a nice place to visit but I would miss the mainland, its car culture, and endless roads, or at least the potential. Have fun surfing!
