Default That Moment When…

You’ve planned for decades. You’ve poured blood, sweat, tears as well as every last dime you could muster and it’s go time.
You’ve double and triple checked everything, she’s primed, there’s oil at the top, the bowls are full of fuel and the “Hometown Car Gods” now gather ‘round. Beads of sweat break across your brow as one of them sets down a fire extinguisher if front of the car that is there in the shop precisely because it burned.

You take a seat inside. Pump the pedal twice. Try to swallow whatever is blocking your throat and ability to breathe. You say a prayer and turn the switch. “Please don’t burn! Please don’t burn!”
As quickly as fire can hit the starter she comes back to you with that familiar thump that makes your heart soar. She flick starts and wakes from her 19 month nap like you’d just driven in her. Man it sounds good!
You gather yourself quick so you don’t look as stunned as everyone else. You’re the engineer after all. Act like it! You shut down the ignition. Step out of the car real cool, look at ‘em and say; “What the —— did y’all think was gonna happen?!?! Then wink, turn and swagger off like John Wayne.

Swear to God I didn’t sleep for like 3 days after that! It was an intense, emotionally moving moment. We have a running 70 Sport again!

Congratulations on your success. I’m a firm believer in having one of those heavy red cans with a hose on stand-by. They fit nicely behind the seat for those test drives as well.
Like a gun, good to have nearby, and hope you never need it.

I have to roll mine out of the garage for testing ... since it's under the house

Love your description of the event.

Excellent -- I recognize the description of firing a new engine. I'm always super amped-up and nervous. Congrats on getting it running again.

I've done that so many times, now I just throw the keys on the drivers seat and it starts right up !

I have one, but never saw one lit off in a room, etc. Jay had it lit in his shop!

Thank you. The vehicle will be finished with safety foremost in mind and, fire suppression will be part of the weight she’s gonna have carry. Can’t afford it ever do this again. Our fire lasted all of 60 seconds. Set me back over $100k. Yeah. That fast!

Definitely gonna have a couple of these on board. I can envision situations where this would ideal versus blasting the whole car in corrosive powder. That stuff etched everything it touched. I had no idea but it does damage.
