Default 74 455 RA Formula

I happen to see this car on Epay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/455-F...QQcmdZViewItem

How rare is this car? I know it has the wrong wheels and other issues but looks like it might be worth restoring. I don't ever remember seeing a RA 455 in '74...

The hood scoop openings look "cut out" to me. I don't see any signs of the wire mesh screens. Just a side note, I've been watching this sellers auctions for the last month or so. He has had an endless procession of firebirds for sale. He lists them a few days and then ends the auction due to "listing error". I haven't seen any of his items reach the reserve. This particular car has been listed no less than 3 times in the last month. I would use caution and it might be worth the road trip to view it.

I hear ya...I noticed the same thing about his auctions. The RA option is listed on the PHS so the option is legitimate...anybody have any idea how many of these were built?

Probably a very rare car indeed. But I also would want to personally inspect it before bidding. Out of only 23 feedbacks, the seller has one negative and two neutrals. I'd be a bit leery of this guy.

I have owned several ram air formulas and all of them had the scoops cut out ,showing a small edge or lip (1/8") from the original part that blocked the opening. The factory did a very clean job of cutting them . Also if I remember correctly the screen in front of scoops was plastic.

I can tell you the screens were not plastic, they were metal. Check one more thing, ram air cars had 2 supports under the air cleaner. They were on each side of the snoorkels. If it is a faked car, they are most likely not there. Kinda hard to see with the air cleaner on.

The air cleaner supports for ram air cars were only on the 70-71 Formulas and the 71 A-bodies. The 72 A-body cars and the 72-74 Formulas with ram air did not have them.

Default 455 ra

Thanks for that info, I was unaware of that. I'll start looking closer at those years.

Yes my 1974 455 ram air Formula and my 1972 455 HO GTO have no supports on the air cleaner.

I believe there were 1,478 with the 455 RA.

Canadian built 200 with 455 RA.

This car sold local in NC (two/three/four weeks ago) for $6000 or thereabouts. BE CAREFUL EVERYONE!

I was trying to buy it but CURRENT SELLER WILL NOT DISCLOSE the block or carb code. Two EASY codes and now "he doesnt have time"

Said its to much time even though he spent close to an hour the other day laying up under car, walking around every panel telling me every little detail of car EXCEPT THE CODES.
He played dumb about where codes are. Im trying to get the first seller up in NC to get on phone and find out whats wrong with the codes (if anything). Something just isnt right. Seems to have the knowledge base about FBs but plays dump about codes, and locations, in my experience.I heard many times: ITS NUMBERS MATCHING ,trust me. Asked about disti (he hasnt looked at that) trans (he was TOLD it is) BLOCK (same thing) BUYER BEWARE.

Thanks for the heads-up...I would definitely make a trip to inspect the car. It's about 250 miles from my house.
