Default Street truck build I've been doing recently

So as if I don't have enough going on, I decided last month that it was time to build a street truck. Every truck I've owned up until this one has been lifted, sitting on 35s-37s, so it was time for a change.

My one condition was it needed to be a regular cab stepside. I cant tell you how many of these trucks I've looked at, and they were all rusted to hell. I found this one at a dealer in CT who said it was fresh up from Jacksonville Florida. After looking at it for all of 30 seconds, it was clear he was telling the truth. Not a single speck of rust, corrosion, nothing. It's as clean underneath as a 2021. Bought it on the spot and drove it 150+ miles home. It's a pretty rare little truck with how it's optioned. Factory V8, PW, PL 2wd stepside. Most were stripped down with rubber floors and crank windows, with V6s.

I immediately began collecting parts and prepping for paint. Ordered a steel cowl hood, 4/6" lowering kit that includes knuckles, springs, and an axle flip kit. Picked up some brand new 20" GMC Snowflake wheels, and to top it all off I got an entire interior from an Escalade including the dash and steering wheel.

First order of business is paint. Should have it done this week. The last pic is a little preview of what's to come!

Thumbs up

I had an ‘01 GMC SLE short bed fleetside I bought new. Loaded. At 100k I dropped it 4/6. Was a blast to drive. Trans crossmember was too low sometimes.
Looks like you’re working fast! Keep posting updates.

I reluctantly went with a 4/6 after much contemplation. Between the awful roads we have here, and the fact that the bedsides on a stepside are urethane, I couldn't risk cracking a bedside. I wanted to go with 22s, but went with 20s for the same reason.

I wet sanded the tails down the other day and hit them with some candy red. I wanted to knock down the orange in the turn signals, and give the tails a deep red look. I just cleared them tonight, but I have a pic of them when I just shot the candy. I also just got done messing with the 3rd taillight. Took a pic of it before I sprayed it.

Shes pretty close to being finished. Got the Escalade interior installed, finished the drop, got the new wheels and tires mounted, and my headlights came in so I wired those up. I still need to paint the mirrors and tailgate handle bezel, but I couldn't help taking it down the street and getting some pics.

I also mounted a front lip off an 05-06 Tahoe, just incase the truck wasn't low enough, but it's pretty damn low lol.

Next up is an alignment, and an immediate trip to the tint shop. After that I got a set of long tube headers with a catless y-pipe going on.

They're aftermarket. I wired in the led strip lights to turn on with the factory running lights.

They've never been wet yet. I had a similar set a few years ago, and they did get some moisture in them. I ended up running a small bead of silicone around the housing where the lense mounts. It kept them nice and dry after that.

Sure! It's a slow project, but I hope to make a bunch of headway this winter. Drove 2k miles round trip to Knoxville TN to buy the body. It's molded off of the actual movie car before it got sold and went to Australia.

Nice job on truck amazing how all Chevy trucks seem to be coming up in value lately. The corvette summer car is ugly KEWL amazing. That is one car that punches you in the face with its looks. Cant wait to see it when you are finished with it.
