The Dupli Color is darker than the Plastic Kote. Not sure if anyone else makes it. I still have a small amount of the 208 so I could get some mixed if needed.

Probably just a coincidence, but after Plasti-Koat went off the market, it seemed to me that the Duplicolor DE1616 lost most of its metallic. I've also had trouble with the last several cans of the ceramic formula drying too fast and not laying down all that well. Used to wear a mask because of all the metallic particles in the air while painting -- no mask needed now, and just doesn't have the same cool look. Also, the Hirsch paint I've tried always had too much green for my liking.

If it's the metallic 67-up color you're looking for, 1616 isn't the duplicolor number. I still have a few cans here I'll have to look for you but it's a 3 digit number for the metallic blue and a perfect match for 67-70. I also used a different number for the later blue used in 71-72 that matched perfectly to the custom mixed color that Scott Tiemann was using.

Plasti-Cote 208 was for the early 1960s cars.

‘65 and older robin egg blue is what we’re discussing. Not the metallic blue.

Well, some of you are, I'm speaking to lust4speed who is talking about the metallic paint, which the egg shell didn't have any of, or shouldn't have.

Here's a portion of a chart I downloaded from one of the private Pontiac sites. I saved the chart but not the source. Comments are from original poster:
1966-1970 Pontiac 6 & V8 Light Blue Metallic Ames PN431 or N182 Bill Hirsch Auto Reported to be high quality paint. Hirsch lists this is being used through 1972 which is incorrect! Classic Industries Blue Poly 62200 DuPont 181-97219 HI-TECH Engine Coating EN-57 Krylon/Dupli-Color Pontiac Blue Metallic DE 1616 Martin Senour Pontiac Blue No. 636 Performance Years RPE482 Plasti-Kote 227 PPG/Ditzler 13255 POR-15 Pontiac Metallic Blue They recommend a silver base coat first. Paint is reportedly difficult to apply, takes a long time to dry and does not look exactly like the factory color. This color is no longer listed on their website. Any update on Plastikote 208? I realize it has been discontinued, which is too bad because it was the best aerosol I've found to the original '59-'65 engine color. The Duplicolor equivalent is quite noticeably darker. VHT, if I remember correctly is noticeably lighter. The Hirsh product is priced at $20.00 per aerosol can..
When painting engine parts and intake manifolds, the only practical method for me is aerosol cans. The Plastikote product was easy to apply, durable, and easy t obtain. Ames sold the Plastikote product as their go-to engine paint. The replacement aerosol is part number PN430B. The Plastikote number was PN430 at $7.00 each, but now is $16.00 due to higher cost from a new vendor. The first two pictures are of recent Tripower parts I've painted with Plastikote 208. The third picture is of the VHT equivalent. You can see it is very light compared to the original. The last picture is of Duplicolor 1610 vs. Plastikote 208 vs. some original paint on the cyl. head.

I called the phone number on the Plastikote spray can. After a few voice messages directing me to different numbers, I ended up with the Duplicolor technical help line. A guy named Joe told me that Sherwin Williams, their parent company, bought the Plastikote division of Valspar.
Duplicolor already has their DE1610 and DE1616 Pontiac engine paints, among many other engine colors, so discontinued the entire Plastikote. line. Joe was aware that there is a difference in their Pontiac colors and Plastikote versions 208 and 227. He said he will pass on my suggestion to use the Plastikote formulas as they are more accurate to the original engine colors. But, he said that's not likely to happen. Here are two manifolds I painted yesterday. The darker one is Duplicolor DE1610. What do you think?

It looks green Dick. That's disappointing. Probably will have to start getting some mixed. Somewhere on the forum here was a thread with all of the forumlas in PPG. We'll have to dig it up and link it.

FYI I have used a lot of the DE1616 usually get the 6 packs and have found the color is not consistent between cans in the same case at times. You notice if you paint parts separate and then assemble engine have had to coat complete engine to even out color more than once.

Has anyone used the paint on JBP site, ITU Pontiac 59-65 Engine Paint Sky Blue ITU-INL15388, and can advise if it matches the old Plasti-kote?

I’ve used both Inline Tube & Ames Pontiac engine paint. Both are very close to original, but I prefer Ames because they sell only Pontiac parts.

Duplicolor DE1610 is too dark, and, as previously stated, inconsistent.
When Duplicolor bought PlastiKote, they should have stuck withe the PlastiKote 208 formula.

I like the Light Metallic Blue and sprayed my '71 engine with it even though it's not correct. I've tried the VHT and it was almost gray in color. The Duplicolor was so soft it scraped off with a fingernail. Rustoleum Hammered Finish Light Blue 7212830 worked better than either of them for the silver-blue metallic. The hammered finish is fine on cast parts as the texture is not noticeable and the color is better. By spraying light coats, you can apply it smooth without texture if needed. Not looking for originality, just the color and it's much more durable than the other two products.
