Default I am torn...... F-150 or GMC 1500

Well, seriously considering a new truck.... my dilemma ..... Ford or GMC? After a few weeks of looking at specs and pricing, its basically a dead heat.
Ford 5.0 slightly more hp then GM 5.3
GM 5.3 slightly better fuel mileage
Towing capacity nearly equal when both are equipped properly
Pricing equipped the way I would order them.... of course very close
The difference comes in as far as trim....
GMC does not offer many trim levels, either a base truck, that I can equip the way I want, or a chrome laden truck that I dont want.
Ford offers many levels of trim, and since I not a fan of chrome on a truck, the STX trim level with body colored bumpers and some really nice argent colored alloy wheels...... wins the exterior looks dept.
Interior wise.... I think the Ford once again wins with a much nicer interior for a lower trim level truck
I have been very loyal to GM, but I have been a Ford fan in my younger years.....
I am torn......

Default Truck

I just traded my 2008 silverado LTZ for the new 2014 LTZ. WOW what a truck. Quiet and powerful. Better mpg than the Ford with a 6.

I like the interior and seats on the new F150s, we have one for work and it has made me think if I ever need a modern truck it just might fit the bill. I find both exteriors to be quite ugly, with the Ford being a bit less so.

I drove Ford trucks from 1987 to 2013.

Looked at all of the pickups, and bought a Toyota Tundra.

The real issue is how long you keep a vehicle.

Ford, Dodge, and GM vehicles start to have expensive issues in the 4 to 5 year range.

My 1999 F150 needed a new engine at 28,000 miles.

I would stay away from the Eco Boost.

If you can't decide between manufacturers, do you have a dealer that you trust more than others?

GM hands down.

The old Ford truck were some tough sob's, but now I would think twice about working one hard (An F150 at least).

The new GM trucks are quite nice. If you have ever been loyal to one brand, then its weird going to another. Everything is different, from the sound the starter makes, to how bolts are placed around the truck.

I'm a GM guy, I like my Yukon. But an ecoboost in an expedition would be pretty tough to pass up.

The inlaws have Expedition. Ford interior is real nice. I feel like it comes down to personal choice.

I have a 2012 F150 Super Crew with the 5.0.
22,000 miles in 10 months. 18.9 mpg average.
Nice truck. Plenty of power. Up to 23 mpg so far. Quiet.
I'd buy another one.

Go with a new truck that has a dipstick for the transmission.

with all other things being equal, I would go with what is most comfortable to sit in for a couple of hours and what would be most comfortable for your passengers. It would suck being on a long trip listening to others complain about leg room or comfort.

I agree, at this point. I think the trucks are equals, and so is the tally of opinions.....

I have driven the 2013 GM truck, and it feels just like my good ol' 2000 Silverado, that I loved.....

I will drive the Ford this week, and see if it feel as good or better.

I just bought the new GMC Sierra 1500, my wife liked the Ford. I had an '04 FX4 F150, '02 Dodge Ram 1500 and a '07 Silverado and traded my '10 Sierra 1500 for the 2014. This truck is light years beyond the 2010 with the exception of the 6.2l! The new truck is exceptionally quiet and comfortable but you are right, the trim levels are weak. The "new" 5.3 is smooth and economical, mine is averaging an all a round mpg of 18-19. It only has 1700 miles on it so I expect it to get better.

Which cab / bed did you get?
I looked at GMC a couple weeks ago, and like the 4-door with the smaller rear doors

Go back & check resale values on comperable models. Like 3-4 years old. See what you find. Ford has a much higher resale.

That is exactly what I got. After having the old suicide door style extended cab it is nice. I was told there was an extra 4" added too. So far I like it, but wish I would have waited on the VVT 6.2. It's hard to go back to the 5.3 once you've had one. The extra 2.5 mpg is good to have though.
