NHRA allows the '73 SD455 engine to be used in Lemans, Grand Am, & Grand Prix models.
Some people(stock class racers ) say phil szupka had a GP w an SD455 from The factory. Just here-say though.

Later one of my dads freinds Bob Gaudreau raced Stephen Pontiacs 64 GTO race car, he then went on to race Paul dodge Pontiacs GTO race cars, then onto hemi cudas. Of course stephen pontiac raced a RAII GTO in 68 RAIV bird in 69, and RAV cars from late 70 to 73 w bill Eckstrom and Tom Mc innis driving them. I remember when people used to say steohens didn’t have an aluminum block and they never exsisted of course we all know several have popped up since the. There was some really rare stuff around bristol back In those days. Let me add that bobs dad was some sort of executive w GM or a GM supplier.

From a post on class racer website .
Mick Leifermans' 1971 GTO with a 455 HO was super competitive , he sold it to Alton Minchey . Mick then ran a 1973 GTO with a 455 Super Duty . These cars were run in the days when you had to have the factory lift , duration , and overlap , he was tight with General Kinetics developing a lot of "square nosed" stocker cams . Seems like a lot of guys ran 73s w SD455 and it’s certainly interesting that NHRA which is pretty strict about combos that didn’t come in bodies (think RAV )would allow that in stock classes.

I have a 73 cast iron SD intake that John Herslow ran. Rules said you can remove emissions. The bottom of intake has been cut removing extra cast iron. I oftened wondered why NHRA allowed certain cars in stock that were advertised produced but 'never' certified.

Not pure Drag Racing but I am aware of a couple of 73 Pontiac "Wagons" that had 73 SD engines installed in them on the line by co-workers there.
First Initial of the workers names were "M". They did a lot of racing on the "Far Out" Woodward road (as members of the "Mile per Hour" Club. Keith Seymore probably knows the two brothers I am referring to. Tom V.

What’s weird about it is the RAV was advertised as well but not allowed to run in stock or SS so why were others that weren’t made allowed to run. Doesn’t make sense . Gotta be a reason

The 74 GTO was Based on the Chevy Nova body and as such had Trans Am hood scoop .
I don’t think that’s the kind of scoop your thinking about.

If you mean the NACA scoop setup, there's been plenty of discussion about it but I don't think anyone has actually done a reproduction yet -if you use the Search function on the toolbar at the top of the page and search on NACA you should be able to find more information. With the proliferation of 3D printers these days it's probably more doable than it was in the past.
