At $300,000.00+ per unit, you don't have to sell as many cars as Ford does selling new Maverick's for $19,700.00 a pop. May signal a new direction for GM in who they want to build cars for. Hope there are enough customers willing to spend that kind of money for a car. The whole idea of spending that kind of money on a ultra rapidly depreciating asset is way beyond my comprehension. But I am a retired school teacher, hardly their target market.

I don't see Buick catering to any particular age or generation anymore. Hell, they don't make anything but SUV's and Crossovers now. Back in the day, they were known for their big comfortable land yachts but those disappeared long ago. Nothing sporty for the younger generation. The trash they build doesn't even begin to compare to Honda and especially Toyota SUV's, why bother?
Either Buick should go back to making a large comfortable cruiser (nobody makes one today so there's a market) or die off into the sunset. |

Back in the day when my Dad wanted a new car and decided on looking at Buick, I went with him and was impressed at how well they positioned themselves for their target market.......older people, financially comfortable, want things kept uncomplicated.
The choices were simple. Everything on the lot was basically: fully loaded pick leather or cloth seats pick your color write a check and drive home Old people aren't a glamorous market but Buick sure sold plenty of cars to them. Eric

[QUOTE=jerry455;6387370]You guys that say Buick has not built anything exciting since the GN
No disrespect Jerry, I'm just another bitter Pontiac guy...lol My younger cow-workers have never even heard of Pontiac before. As for Buick, there is so much they could do but if China is the target market - and what they are doing is working - who are we? I'll prolly keep buying GMC's because I can't do chevy and I'm an old pontiac guy lol. |

Catering to the Chinese Market
"Buick has excelled at catering to the unique tastes of Chinese buyers and understanding that these are often much different than tastes in America. For example, high-powered executives in China love minivans. They perceive these long, comfy rides to be analogous to limousines. In response to this attraction, Buick has released upscale minivans with classy interiors roomy enough to transport the full entourage of powerful characters." "They’ve also found success in marketing to the younger generation. In fact, the average Chinese Buick-buyer is younger than 35. The automaker does this through high-tech, futuristic ads that depict wealthy urbanites riding around in Buick models." Source: https://www.carlblackoforlando.com/b...na-love-buick/ The Shanghai General Motors plant is the biggest of them all, with 1,700 employees and plans to build 100,000 Buick sedans a year. The auto maker's $750 million investment in the factory represents the single biggest American investment in China. .

No. My love for Buick stops at 1987. Still, I understand why they kept them around instead of Pontiac. Globally the numbers weren't there, and here on the homefront the numbers weren't much better.

Bunkie Knudsen quote, " I can sell a young mans car to an old man, but I can't sell an old mans car to a young man".
These words were allegedly spoken prior to removing the Silver Streak stainless steel suspenders from Pontiac in 1957. Pontiac should have painted that slogan on the walls of corporate headquarters, and lived by them. IMO, truer words were never spoken. If Buick succumbed, it would be poetic justice. I couldn't even fathom how many times I've heard someone say that to me since they announced in 2009 that they would be killing off Pontiac in 2010. Evidently few people in the general public thought it was a stellar idea either. Mikes favorite shirt that I designed, and sold : FRONT BACK |

I wish I would have bought 2 or 3 more of them. My shirt is so worn out and been washed so many times, you can hardly read it now. You have no idea how many GM engineers, training center instructors, and other mid-level GM people have seen that shirt. Never a negative comment. Most just nod in agreement, and mumble stuff about how stupid GM was running Pontiac straight off a cliff.

You should make another run of them!

It's been talked about previously, the shop that printed them still has the file for the artwork, just need to pony up the money for a minimum run of 2 dozen shirts.

Sloan said "a car for every purse and purpose" representing the GM hierarchy. Start with Chevy and step up to Pontiac, Olds, Buick, and eventually buy a Cadillac. Today with vehicle leasing so popular, that slogan is meaningless, consumers can lease vehicles they could never afford to purchase. GM's market share and brand loyalty have tanked. Unless Buick can produce some exclusive vehicles (not rebadged) that have distinctive styling like some of the recent concepts. No need for Buick in my opinion.

I'd be interested in that shirt. Even more interested if it included the Solstice - then I'd get at least 2. |
