Arrow new hydraulic rollers.......

So, I'm wondering if there's any feedback yet on the new evolution hydraulic roller lifters from comp cams.................

https://www.compcams.com/evolution-r...set-of-16.html

They look promising............especially since I lost a lobe on my cam and need to purchase new lifters.

I see they're new, I got the email today, but am wondering if anyone has any info on the low down.

After a quick look, I'm not understanding how the lifter body stays in the bore, to keep from turning???

The photos on the site state "not actual photo" on each of them. I'm sure there's a link bar, but marketing hasn't created brand specific photos yet.

I too am waiting on some reviews for these.

After reading online reviews and several articles about them, and talking to the lead engineer I got a set of Johnson HR lifters. They are fully manufactured and heat treated in the US.

The lifters before this were made in the US by Shaver Enterprise in SoCAl.The new lifters look exactly alike except for the insert of the metering system.Have not talked to anyone that has got a set of them yet?Tom

Appears to use a link-bar system at the top of the lifter.

What's with the "high-performance" circlip holding the lifter together, with the low-performance wire clip hiding inside the "Hydraulic Cartridge"?

BUT if the photo isn't of the actual product...

I like how they talk about patented features without actually listing the patent number.

From the description, it kind of sounds like the point of these new lifters was to design around QC/production tolerance issues in the current manufacturing. Instead of fixing the QC for its existing lifters, Comp designed a new lifter that doesn’t need as exacting QC?

I thought I read that the clips are there so they can be rebuilt?

I could understand having the rebuild function if they were used for racing applications, like solid rollers in extreme conditions. Why would you want to rebuild hydraulic rollers that I think would mostly be used in street applications.............?

Sounds like another case of planned obsolescence..........

There was a thread about this sometime ago. The way I understand it having the insert function allows all lifters in this series to be produced with a specified bore so easier to control tolerance. Theoretically, if one gets a "ticker" just replace the cartridge instead of the whole lifter.

shows "in stock" now & lets you add it to cart & place the order.

these look like a nice design & says they can be rebuilt by the owner in their garage if/when needed. claims to cure the noisy ticker issues of previous designs. will have to wait for the reviews when people start using them....

I've had a set for a few weeks now. They are for a car that probably won't be on the road until the summer, so it will be a while before I know how well they do/don't work.

Folks have been rebuilding lifters since hydraulic lifters were invented.

The lifters in my K1500 were pulled-apart for cleaning and inspection. Nothin' to it--if the lifter is basically healthy to begin with.

My guess is that "rebuilding" in the Comp Cams sense means "throw away the "cartridge" and buy new ones."

I'm trying to get some feedback from Butler if they have used these lifters.

Thought some find this reply back from Butlers interesting:

"The 85701 Pontiacs lifter itself hasn’t been out that long, but the cartridge inside the new style lifters is from overhead cam engines so there are literally a million of those out there running for many years. Also they’ve been testing the LS version of these lifters for about a year both in engines on the dyno, on the Spintron and in cars.
We build and tested a couple of engines with them with no issue.

As with every part, it’s the engine builders call. We’ve had literally every part that we use from every manufacturer fail at some point, including Johnson lifters... "

Default Hyd Roller Lifters

Not sure if the new comps will be anything special or not but, I believe the best Hyd Roller currently available for Pontiac are the Made in the USA Johnsons
