Quick question as I know it’s been done before, but I tried a search with no quick answers. I am installing new bushings, I just completed the driver’s side. I found that the steering shaft had to be disconnected at the rag joint and moved so that I the arm could clear the mounting bolts.

I need to do the passenger side now and am wondering if there will be anything in the way of removal. For example the exhaust log manifold (I assume the engine may be slighly offset to the passenger side like other cars?) or something with the factory A/C?

This is a running driving car and I have been procrastinating this job for a while so I finally jumped on it and did the drivers side first as it has better access. So how much harder is the passenger side as it has less access? Complete working A/C in place too.

On the a/c, it would be best to loosen the compressor, but you don't have to disconnect it. I would try to hang it with a thick wire from the r/h side hood hinge. Just to swing it out of the way so you will have enough room. I would also recommend taking off the wheelwell housings. Hope this info helps.

Hey Steve, wellllll I hope that's not the case. It really doesn't look like it after I took a closer look at it yesterday. The rear A/C bracket seems high enough not to interfere but we'll see. I still wonder if it will clear the exhaust manifold. Now that rear bushing nut might have to be tightened on the bench instead of the car or, maybe I can 'customize' a wrench to get back there.
Again, I'd like to know if the arm will clear the exhaust manifold as I slide if off the mounting studs for removal.

Looking at the car, one side will clear, but the other side will be a struggle, but with one side clear, it will come off. Need to jiggle it, but will come off. Good luck.

The studs are actually bolts that will come out of the chassis if you wiggle them.
I am working on my 1970 gto and all 4 of the studs have come out.

These are going to take a lot more than a wiggle. I have had the ones in my bird out before though and I did look into that when I ran into the steering shaft on the drivers side. They really need a direct wack from the inside and there's just not any room for that. Hopefully the arm will clear regardless. I hope to get to work on it this weekend.

Just a follow-up, there was no interference at all. I was going to do this today but it was so nice outside yesterday after work I thought I would go ahead and get started. Everything went smoothly and I ended up finishing in a little over two hours taking my time. All the fasteners are accessible through the wheel well once the wheel is out of the way. Thanks for all the replys.
