I am amazed, on original exh. I have not seen these brackets above tail pipes before. Are they just for the W72?

Nice score. Here's the hangers from my Y88. I was able to reuse them with the new Pypes system.

Somebody got happy with the spot welder!

Looks like a real solid car - you and your son should have some good times with that one!

I didn't think the W72 cars had those brackets. I thought just the hangers above the rear splitters. Weren't those hangers originally designed for the single muffler systems behind the differential? Not positive but they seem awfully heavy duty & the oem pipes were one piece & welded to the mufflers. I can't imagine a hanger in that location doing much but maybe interfering? I know the aftermarket rear pipes were two piece, so could they have been added? Boy, I am not sure anymore

Bob, do you have any pictures of your orignal exhaust system before you removed it? Thats something you don't get too see too often.

Both of my 78's had the exhaust system replaced with aftermarket by the time I bought them. But my 79 W72(L78) is still original. I will have to take a peek at the tail pipes next time I am at the storage building. But, its a 79 so maybe its a different hanging system. I took pictures of the underside when I first bought the car, but I have an awesome filing system & it prevents me from finding things when I want them......

I just don't recall any brackets & I made the assumption the were only for hang in mufflers behind the differential. We Never stop learning things with these cars.......
