contact dave at sd performance and he will meet all your needs with those heads. I was at his open house and he thought those heads are about the best on the market for street strip heads.

Dave and Marcel at SD are your "HEAD-quarters" for KRE's.

Our engine is currently under construction. 428 4 bolt main block, standard 455 bore, 4.21 stroke crank, 298cfm KRE aluminum heads from SD Performance, and Dave's custom cam to match.

We're going to run Crower solid roller lifters on the cam, and a little more compression than the engine they dyno'd the heads/cam with. The numbers on up on their website, from the dyno runs. Our engine will be exactly 455 cid, and 10.98 to 1 static compression ratio, so we should make similiar power. We'll post the dyno and track numbers when they become available.....Cliff

Cliff, I'm curious....why solid roller rather than hyd. roller? Is this more of a race set up than a highperf daily driver?

I run KRE 310 CNC ported. Since everyone says they don't flow the same on an SF600, they are probably the same as SD's 290 cfm heads. Though my CSA and port volume is larger, they may not flow anymore.
Time is in sig, dominator, victor, 288/296 U/D solid cam, 1.65 rockers, 2" headers.

Default SD Performance KRE Heads

SD Performance does an awesome job on the KRE heads. I have seen them in person. SD gets the heads raw (as attached) and utilizes nothing but the best materials (seats, springs, valves, etc) to finish out the heads. The chamber mods picked up 15 numbers...

The attached images display the before and after pictures of SD Performance's CNC work.

We decided to try a set of Crower solid roller lifters on the hydraulic roller camshaft. Jim Lehart recomended it, with a tight lash setting. Supposed to be worth some additional power, and lighten up the valvetrain a bit.

Best run to date was 11.52 @ 117.99mph, DA was apprx 3900'. Best run 1/8th mile 7.28 @ 94.99mph. That was with the currenty hydraulic roller cam. The best run with the Crower RAIV cam was 11.64 @ 115.69mph.

We went out this fall in really good weather, but had piss poor starting line traction. 60' times were 1.85-1.88, instead of 1.61-1.64, we still went 11.62-11.64 @ 118mph. The old motors still making plenty of power!.......Cliff

Thanks!

Race weight is 3760lbs with 1/2 tank of fuel. 3500rpms stall speed, 3.42 gears. I shift at 5000rpm's for most runs. The engine pulls hard to 5800rpm's, but only picks up .02-.03 seconds extending the shift points. It is happy when short shifted. I can shift straight from 1st to 3rd, and it will only slow up a few hundreths on the the run. The engine is all about torque production, making over 550ft lbs at 3000rpm's, and still making 537 ft lbs at 5100rpm's, peaking up near 600 ft lbs at 4200rpm's. I'm hoping the new engine runs equally as well, with a little more top end charge. I'm giving up some cid, adding a little compression, 30 more cfm head flow, and 6 degrees more camshaft, hopefully it will work out as planned?......Cliff

PS: I would add that I made a slight error in the first post, our heads are closer to 290 cfm than 298cfm. We actually flowed them yesterday, and the numbers were almost identical to the flow sheets provided with them, within 3 cfm for all runners tested.

The engine is nearly finished, cam is degree'd, minor problem with one piston which is being corrected, then we're going to button it up.

We ended up needing 9.500" pushrods for this combination of parts, and we're going to have to shim up the rocker studs just a tad, which was a little surprising.

Tom, thanks for the tip, we were going to run them at .008" clearance. Do you set them hot or cold? If set cold, how much difference do you see when it warms up?

We have 148lbs seat pressure, and 348lbs over the nose, should be enough for what we are trying to do?.........Cliff

Cliff, are you going to dyno the motor before installing it?
