76 TA Hood Bird color
I have a 76 TA black with red interior. When I got the car it did not have a bird or any decals on the car and the guy that I bought it from said it was ordered without the Bird. I would like to put a bird on it but not sure what the correct color was from the factory. From what I have found, the only color from the factory was the gold. Also, If it is gold does anyone have a pic of one? Thanks, Jeff

They look just like the "Smokey and the Bandit" except a '76 insted of the '77 used in the movie. I found a list at one time of bird colors vs. paint color when I was looking into the bird on my '74. My car was the same way, it came with no bird but everyone and their dog told me that I should put the bird on it so I did. Everyone expects a bird on a TA so I gave in. If I find out where that list is I'll post it.

Just my opinion.. But with red interior I wouldn't put on a gold bird. I would put on the red and silver bird.

I agree with Bad74 as long as you don't give a hoot about originality and are not going to have the car judged for correctness. I would do all of the decals in the red/silver combo.

I have a friend who had the silver TA and that car had the red bird on it.

Thanks for the picture GOOD39, that is a good looking TA. Bad74, I was thinking of using the red and silver bird but just wanted to know what the glod would look like with the red interior. Also, where can a person get the drip rail moldings? That is about the only thing I need to have it complete. Thanks, Jeff

I think the STOCK "correct" Gold hood bird will look OK with the red interior.
That's the way they made them! A charcoal & red hood bird will match the interior better, but it just won't look "correct" on a 76. If you are NOT restoring your T/A to stock specs,it really doesn't matter. I THINK that ANY bird with a shaker NEEDS to have either a broad stripe OR a pair of "chicken wings" around it. It just looks "naked" without it! In MY opinion, that's the reason why they didn't build many SD Formulas in 73 & 74. (nobody wanted them because they looked so PLAIN!) I'll bet they would have sold TRIPLE the amount if they had the REGULAR Formula plastic hood on them. It's WAY MORE AGGRESSIVE looking! NO DISRESPECT to SD Formula fans, but that car LOST it's identity when it LOST it'sPLASTIC hood. Every time I see one it reminds me of an Esprit that some kid has stuck a T/A hood & shaker on. When I repainted MY 74 T/A in the early 90's,I didn't put the hood bird on & as it turned out,it NEVER came with one. I was going to put one on,but sold it before it happened. Pontiacstogo; Your car DOES look GOOD,but it's just missing that EXTRA PIZZAZ that T/A watchers EXPECT! |
